As for me I prefer to usually wait for DVD, and by then I know what will happen haha. But movies that the first time I saw them and everytime I see them again, will cause me to cry:

Old Yeller (Is there really a person out there who did not cry for Old Yeller?)
Forrest Gump
Mask
Dances With Wolves (But only at the very, very end. When Dances With Wolves and Stands with a Fist are leaving and his head is down and you can feel his sorrow. Then, there is Wind in His Hair at the top of the hill yelling in his native tongue, Dances With Wolves, I am Wind in His Hair. Don't you see that I am your friend? I will always, be your friend. Bring me a tissue!).
Brian's Song
Taps
Shindler's List

Ok guys, time for a couple of classics!

"Splendor in the Grass" with Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood. Elila Kazan production. It was Natalie Woods first film and a great one to watch if you're heartbroken and want to wallow in it. The ultimate chick flick.

"The Yearling" with Gregory Peck. About a boy and his pet fawn. Total tear jerker!!

Check em out!!!

I smiled through the whole movie and couldn't hold my tears in.

First movie I've ever cried to, or even felt touched by.
That was a really good movie. It was really sad in some scenes, especially the one where he tries to call home, but he just doesn't say anything. And, of course, when he is dying because of a moldy or poisonous plant he ate (I forget which). That was one of the most wonderfully directed movies I've seen in a long time. Sean Penn really showed his range by directing such a brilliant movie. Too bad the guy died at the end. If he would have lived, who knows how the story would have ended?

Crash was an amazingly powerful movie and it almost brought tears to my eyes. All the characters and their interactions were so powerful. You felt like you knew someone just like most of them. I also cried at the end of the movie Selena, but I was like 12 years old. That was one of the saddest endings ever.

Groucho is on a distinguished road
Default Great thread

The Jurassic Bark episode of Futurama.

I agree 100%. Matt Groening´s works are IMO by far the best recipe for laughter, but this episode was really emotional.

Movies that made my eyes watery:
- Spirited away (you will melt while watching this movie)
- Grave of the fireflies (again, the fantastic studio Ghibli)
- Pursuit of hapiness
- Seven pounds (also staring Will Smith)
- Modern times by Charlie Chaplin (the ending inspires me every time)
- Leon - the professional
- The Elephant man
- it´s a wonderfull life (1945)
- The Pianist
- Schindler´s list
- Casablanca
- embarassed to say, but when watching the 40 year old virgin, it was hard to hold back tears at some scenes where I could painfully relate to the main character
(though it is a comedy and I had a good laugh).
...

I get emotional quite quickly, one of the reasons I prefer watching good movies alone.

I second everyone who said Old Yeller and The Yearling. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. Remember the scene where Jody has to put his beloved fawn out of his misery and in tears he yells out "I hate ya! I hope ya die!" to his parents. Heartwrenching.

Another oldie but goodie, Imitation of Life with Lana Turner. You simply cannot watch the funeral at the end with a dry eye. Also the scene where Annie tells Sarajane that she won't try to track her down anymore, she just wanted "to see my baby, one more time" ... waaaaah!

And the very last scene from Titanic, where Rose drifts off to sleep and goes up the ballroom staircase to the applause of all those who perished, to reunite with Jack again at last - classic.

The Elephant Man and Platoon both used the same music, part of a symphony, I think, in their final scenes. It was the music that brought the emotion. Does anyone know what it was?

@Lioness:

You probably meant this one (there are different version of it):
Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings

You are right.
Music is an extremely important part of the whole experience, especially when talking about emotions.

Thank you, Groucho. The Adagio is the one and it is beautiful. Isn't technology wonderful? The link instantly played the whole thing! I will have to research Barber, I never heard of him before.

I thought of a few more possible tear inducers:
The Way We Were (Redford, Streisand and the song Memories...)
Love Story (O'Neal, McGraw, and another iconic sad song)
Sounder
Rocky

Here are a few more that get me every time. And for the record, I don't actually cry but I hold it back, letting the lump in the back of my throat build up until I let out a sniffle or two. All the while, my eyes are welling up. Anyway, here are my top 5 in no particular order:

Field of Dreams (playing catch with dad at the end)
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Del's speech in the motel room and in the train station at the end)
Cars (end race)
Click (Saying goodbye to dad and second chance at the end)
Pursuit of Happyness (pretty much most of the movie)

A.I Artificial Intelligence – About David, a kid robot who just wants to hear his human mum says “I love you, David...”

Code Geass R2 (anime) - The couple last episodes, ESPECIALLY the last episode.

DNAngel (anime) – Episode 24, I think. The Second Hand of Time arc’s ending, when her blood turns into red petals.

Minority Report –The scene when the PreCog says “This house is full of love...”

The Pursuit of Happyness – Even though I only started watching halfway through the plot and thus losing a good deal of the story, the ending gets me sniffing for tissue.

Titanic – The part when she desperately blows the whistle and all the way until the end.

WALL-E – Somewhere near the ending, when Wall-E was "rebuilt". I smudged my mascara even though I was only sniffing. Okay, maybe I did cried a little...

Want to watch Grave of the Fireflies next.
