Default Test your analytical skills.

I know this is an old and funny math problem. But I wish to share it with you.

What's twelve divided by one half?

Here's another one. three girls went to a motel and rented a room for 30 $
they each paid 10 $.

The owner realized that the price was only 25$ and ordered his slave to return the 5 $.

The slave in turn gave one dollar each to the girls and kept the other 2 for donation.

Now each of the girls paid 9 $, multiply that by 3 = 27 +2(which the slave had) = 29. What happened to the 1 dollar?

The 27 is money paid and the 2 is money received. You shouldn't add paid and received amounts. Instead you should subtract them, finding 25 which is the amount that the owner received and everything turns out to be correct.

Also, the 27 and the 2 refer to the situation after all payments have been done while the 30 refers to the situation after the first payment. Equaling total amounts received an paid should be done at the same instant of time.

Try these

What is the value of 2006 x 2008 - 2007 x 2007? (no calculators!)

How many two digit numbers N have the property that the sum of N and the number formed by reversing the digits of N is a square?

(2007-1)*(2007+1)-2007*2007 = 4014-2 = 4012

(-1?) my intuition told me that if i were to multiply both of the i'll multiply the last numbers first. the first ended up in 8 the later 9 so i figured 8-9= -1 then just added the 2000 in the equation.

Correct.

You rearrange it as 2006 x 2007 - 2007 x 2007 = -2007. Then add the missing 2006 to get the answer of -1.

The second one is a bit cumbersome actually.

Hmmm, you missed a bit here.

(2007-1)*(2007+1) = 2007*2007 -2007 + 2007 -1 = 2007*2007 - 1

memory trivia,

When you're using the method of loci, can you re use the same location for memorizing new set of data, but without forgetting the old?

If yes, how

If no, how

Tip, the answer is not no.

In the end each girl pays $8.33 & 1/3 cents. = $25.00. Keep in mind there are two transactions here that need to be kept separate.
