LillyoftheValley is on a distinguished road
Lightbulb Hey baby, what's your name?

I was just answering the ''Hey baby...'' - sign thread, and I thought of a ''real names'' thread.

Just write your birth name (if you're ready), and we'll see how many different names we have here. Use your alphabet, and add a short meaning or translation into English!

I'll brake the ice: My name is Đurđica

In my country, it is the name for the flower Lilly of the Valley, and the English translation is Georgina (little Georgia) - similar pronounciation.

I'm a baby? Wow.

My name is Erki.
Can't say anyhting about the meaning...pretty meaningless name I guess.

PS: it would be good if we included pronounciations as well...if I only knew how to pronounce my name on paper...

My name is Alec. In latin Alec is one of many names short for Alexander, whose meaning derives from 'Alexander the Great' and literally means protector of man. I haven't protected the human race in any way yet so I feel I'm falling short of my potential for now

An interesting thing happened the other day. I was in the bookshop with my friend Tobias (awesome name). We picked up a reference book for babies names and just for a laugh decided to look up our own names. Tobias said that it better not be anything pro-religion (he's an atheist) and just as he said this we flipped to the page with his name.

'Tobias' - 'God is good'

Oh, how we laughed!

Bisha Kanval Ali

It's a mixture of different eastern languages:

Bisha is arabic for date (as in the fruit), Kanval is Urdu for Lilly and Ali is just a common name from the place my family originates from.

Also BISHA is an acronym for the British Inline Skating Hockey Assocation, but I hope my parents didn't name me after it!

Adam Adair Bryce Alexander (Yes, I have two middle names)

Adam is after the biblical Adam, since I was the first (and only, it turned out) son. I do have two older sisters, however.

Adair is an old family name coming through the direct line of my fathers to Adair David Alexander, who immigrated to America from Scotland. He was named after his great-grandfather, who was also named after his great-grandfather (which is as far as the genealogical record goes). Adair literally means ash fork, or fork in the road at the ash tree.

Bryce is another family name, and was the name of the Scottish clan that my direct line of fathers came from. Bryce was originally Welsh in origin, and means Strength, although my clan was known more for diplomacy than for warring. I suppose that if you can defeat your enemies without raising your sword, you truly are strong.

Alexander, my surname, comes from Alexander the Great, and as Alec (Shaden) mentioned before, it means protector of men.

Amanda Himelein (Uh-man-duh Hem-a-line)

Amanda -- Worthy of great love

Himelein -- Name of a small town in Germany. However, "himmel" means "heaven" and "ein" is a diminutive... so it's likely that the town name means "Little piece of heaven"

In short, I am a little piece of heaven worthy of great love. (I, too, feel that I fall short of the expectations of my name.)
