Default Great Movies that make you feel good...

I recently finished watching Amelie for the second time in a few years, and I have to admit I felt great.

So, that's what this thread is about. What movies make you feel good?

Here are some:
Amelie (French film)
Save the Green Planet (Korean Film)
Lage Rahe Munnabhai (Indian film)
Forrest Gump
Chocolat
March of the Penguins

My favourite film of all time is called "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" by Studio Ghibli. It's beautifully drawn, has an interesting story and it never fails to put a smile on my face.

Yes, Forrest Gump is great, but I've never seen Amelie - does it come with subtitles? I don't speak French.

I think A Beautiful Mind is the one film that impressed me most, ever - I have written articles about 6 movies that I think are great here.

Otherwise I have a whole page of inspirational movies that I recommend on my website : there is so much crap on TV that we rather go and get one at the video store for meaningful entertainment.

Thumbs up Movies that I love

Laputa is great. Another great movies:

Children of Heaven, The (absolutely awesome)
Spirited Away (from the same guy who has made Laputa: castle in the sky)
Howl's Moving Castle (another movie from Miyazaki)
What Dreams May Come (I love this one)
Kikujiro no natsu (great comedy)
Click (lot of people don't like it but I enjoyed it)
Windstruck (awesome, unique)
Terminal
Big Fish
Green Mile, The (classic)
Interstate 60 (a bit weird but I liked it)
3-Iron (ditto)

I can heartily recommend these movies. I really love majority of them. I even won't mention Forrest Gump, that's the classic!

Also, there is a service called Spiritual Cinema Circle created by the same guy who directed What Dreams May Come, sending monthly DVD with positive movies to their subscribers.

I'm with Stalker - I like movies that jar me / break me down emotionally and remind me that life is a huge and mystical place, that it's much bigger than my own petty problems, and that its Ok for my purpose here to be a great one. As a pose to happy joy joy moves... those can be nice too if I'm feeling down. Sound of Music is a good one. My favorite movies overall though are:

American Beauty
Memento
Donnie Darko
12 Monkeys
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ('specially this one)
Se7en
Garden State
The Fountain

Six Feet Under DVDs (Just think of each one as a short movie =)

Magnolia
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Princess Mononoke
Le Fabuleux destin d`Amélie Poulain (Amelie)
Good Will Hunting
Lady in the Water

Dan.Linehan: No way! The Fountain is in your list! I'm waiting for the longest time to actually see this film and it looks like none of my friends want to go for this.

[leandro.leme]: I loved Hero for how beautiful the film was.

BlueCrane: Yes, it comes with subtitles. You should go see the film as soon as you can. Its probably one of the most refreshing films you'll see in your life.

When Harry met Sally (1989)
How to Make an American Quilt (1995)
Don Juan DeMarco (1995)
Practical Magic (1998) (probably my favorite)
Dracula (1992)

Other:
Mitt liv som hund (my life as a dog) (1985)

Little Women (1994)
28 days (2000)
Chocolat (2000)
Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)

Watch "The Butterfly Effect" (Director's Cut, NOT the theater version). It's on DVD. The ending is absolutely stunning. It made me understand what true love really is.

Justed wanted to throw two more into the mix:

Hook and Bicentennial Man

There are a lot of other good movies, but Hook just puts a smile on my face (Bangerang!). Bicentennial Man is kind of sad, but I love the portrayal of the passage of time.

I noted many, many that I liked already stated, but I was surprised that the four I keep with me all the time weren't on here.

The Matrix trilogy (all three).
Batman Begins
V for Vendetta
The Princess Bride

And just as a repeat...

Forrest Gump, Miracle on 34th Street, Remember the Titans, Butterfly Effect, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart... all also great movies. I'm sure there are many I don't recall.

I second Gattaca. Such a powerful and poignant movie - it took my breath away, and for me, truly captures what it means to have a purpose in life and to pursue it wholeheartedly. Simply beautiful, and so inspirational.

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet:

La Vita è Bella, a sensitive comedy (of all things) about living in a concentration camp, was a great and touching movie. The English name is 'Life Is Beautiful'. It is not the same as the 'Life Is Wonderful' movie, though.
