I like the Total War games for PC. There is an extensive modding community for these games, so even though there's only 7 official releases (not including expansion packs), there's probably between 50 and 100 modifications out there. My favorite one is Roma Surrectum (Rome Arises). It's for Rome: Total War (obviously) and it makes everything pretty much historically accurate. Instead of the same generic legions being recruited in every region, you recruit the actual named and numbered legions like Legio I Germanica which can be trained in Trier, or Legio IX Hispaniensis which can be recruited in Taraco (eastern Spain). It's a pretty awesome game with loads of detail and educational tidbits throughout. You can even build the Castra Praetoria in Rome and recruit the Praetorian Guard and a Praetorian prefect. I'm not really a gamer, but I am addicted to this game. I play for a couple hours every day. LOL ![]() ![]() |

I just spent an embarrassing amount of time playing Age of Empires II. Although I'm not sure if it's embarrassing because of how long I played or because of how much I suck. On the bright side... it works on Windows 7! Oh God... and there's also Robot Unicorn Attack. Holy cheez whiz. |

Which one is AOE II again? Age of Kings? Do people still play that online? I use to play the original AOE. Ha! I should go see if people still play that online. Quote:

Actually there is now Age of Empires Online ... the latest incarnation of the series, I beta tested it earlier this year and it was released (unleashed on the public) in mid august 2011. good game but there are some significant issues with it.. so till they throw a patch at it, I am playing fable 3 .... I am a WoW veteran too lol and also still have a love for the old fashioned text based Muds.. |

Well, in case you get really nostalgic, you can pick up old versions of AOE for about $10. They SAY they only work on Windows 2000 and NT but I have cleverly thumbed my nose at them.

I used to love NES and SNES games. I haven't enjoyed playing much recently, but I do feel compelled to list a few out of nostalgia. Chrono Trigger, Shenmue II, Kirby's Dreamland for NES. Bubble Bobble. I have been strongly considering buying a game called Psychonauts. I am surprised no one mentioned it (at least not that I saw). Here's the description: Amazon.com: Psychonauts: Video Games |

I loved Chrono Trigger. I'll still go back and play it every few years. Chrono Cross was a good game too. It was one of the few games with a story that went beyond simple dichotomies of good and evil and at least attempted to draw out more moral complexities. I liked the Xenogear games for the same reason. Most games are fascinating examples of how black and white human thought can potentially be. Quote:

Also, for anyone who likes funny games, check out Earthbound for the SNES. That game has such a dedicated cult following that when a sequel was released (Mother 3) in Japan and there was no sign of the game being translated and released to the English-speaking world, the fans took it upon themselves to translate the entire (text-heavy) game and release a nearly-flawless fan-made patch that converts the game to English.

I just remember a game Galactic Civilizations 2, its a turn based Turn-based strategy game. The cool thing is you can win conquer the galaxy with even firing a shot, you can convince them to join just by the quality of life and culture of your empire, or you can conquer with military conquest.

Heh, I haven't played video games very frequently since I was a teenager, but the last game I (re-)played from start to finish was The Secret of Mana last year. Now that I have broadband, I mostly prefer watching "Let's Play..." videos on YouTube to actually playing games myself. Right now I'm making my way through an LP of King's Quest III. And of course, I love listening to game music. Lately I've been listening to the A Link to the Past soundtrack a lot, hence the avatar. Last edited by OptimistPrime; 09-22-2011 at 01:59 PM. |

I recently lost my sanity playing Dead Island on the Xbox 360. The devs decided that the number and toughness of zombies was appropriate for both single player and four player. Needless to say, it was very difficult. Favorite games... Borderlands Just Cause 2 Doom (Doom 3 is the weakest IMO but still good) Quake 2 Burnout 3 I'm hoping to add Elder Scrolls: Skyrim to my list shortly. |
