Default What fun projects are you working on?

I'm learning to play piano - bought a keyboard in the summer but quit for 3 months when I moved. I can play about half of Paint It Black now. The only problem is I play on my parents' piano sometimes and I realize the smaller, non-weighted keyboard keys just won't do; they will screw me up if I try to get serious.

I just started experimenting with story writing yesterday - I mean, I've written 3-4 paragraphs. My thought process feels just how it did when I was in oh, 4th or 5th grade writing it seems. I haven't done any short story writing since then. Should be fun to complete something though.

I want to learn to taste tea like a professional taster - I want to get a book on how to do that.

A couple months ago I made some electronic music, and while happy with the results I just found using the program a painstaking process - I used psycle.

I think that's it.

I'm working on editing my manuscript (a compilation of spiritual short stories)... that's my big fun project right now. I call it fun because my heart is in it... so it doesn't feel as much like "work" as a lot of people describe the writing process... probably because I write using a much more relaxed / allowing process... not nearly as structured as many people seem to think is necessary to write successfully.

"But how will writing ever get done, if you don't commit time and structure to it?"

Write for the love of it... when the love of it is there... the words will flow as needed and as appropriate.

It may take me longer to write something (one of my recent short spiritual stories took me about a month and a half)... and sometimes it may take me 10 minutes (like another one of my recent short spiritual stories).

As a lifelong premature quitter of projects, most of the time before even starting, I'm proud to say that I'm still working on my website after 8 months!

I figured out that I probably spend 8 hours per week working on stuff for my site. (Progress is slow for a newbie with an affinity for experimentation.) So I just recently decided to reexamine what I'm doing and use the 80/20 principle. I ended up with this idea: Focus on writing articles, and write them a heck of a lot better.

So now, even if it takes me 8 hours to write only two articles, I believe that it will still have a far greater impact than spending 8 hours doing whatever I did before. That's my current project within my big project.

I've spent two hours on my first article and I'm not even half-way done. But I'm taking a much better approach this time, so people might actually like this one.

This is me as well!

I am currently working on a website too, although I've only been working on it for around three months.

That is certainly an eclectic mix.

How is the fighting game going? Are you doing that all by yourself?

Sounds pretty intense.

Hey...random question. Is there any type of glider that moves really slowly? I was at a park once and this guy in the air was flying really slowly in something...I don't remember exactly how it looked but it was almost like the movement of a helicopter. It did having wings and I could see the guy sitting in open air...almost like para-sailing, but I heard an engine.

It might have been a powered paraglider. There are number of videos on youtube of them: YouTube - Crossing New Zealand by Powered Paraglider

The fighting-game's an entirely solo-project, so far. Depending on what I turn the engine into, I may end up pulling in some other folk.

I've taken up CG modeling. For the past several years I've been making a detailed model of Pirates Of The Caribbean and New Orleans Square from Disneyland.

I like it too. The nonmotorized version fits in a backpack, and the powered version can fit inside a car and can go most anywhere. It's also the cheapest form of gliding. The main drawback is its canopy requires fairly calm winds to be safe. You could possibly find a site nearby where you could try a tandem flight for ~$100 to $150. You can see how a National Geographic photographer uses one here:

Best of Adventure: Adventurers of the Year - George Steinmetz - National Geographic Adventure Magazine

Also, this morning Elle and I went out for our first glide in a sailplane. The wind was a little rough, but it was a good experience and we'll likely be trying it again. The club had a great little community ready to help out.

Heh, I became obsessed with paragliding for a few days after I realized exactly what it was. I watched youtube videos constantly, asked my friends if they ever thought about learning, even blogged about it.

Now my obsessive impulse is pretty much over.

Not on anything that I would myself call a project, but here's something I currently love doing:

Browsing through Wikipedia on subjects that I like(philosophy, Aristotel, zen, religion systems,...).

That's cool! When I was a kid, we had one of those old 20-volume encyclopedia sets. I'd spend hours leafing through it. I nearly flunked out of school, but got a fair education from those books.

About the Pirate modeling project I mentioned before: I have a website where I'm showing it off, but didn't post the address, because I wasn't sure it was allowed. Now I see others doing it, so here's mine, if anyone wants to look at it.
