Default The movie Seven Pounds

I saw Seven Pounds tonight, and I thought it was so incredibly beautiful and loving, with a really beautifully stunning ending.

I had planned on watching 2-3 movies at the theater in a row, with that movie being the first, but after I saw that I knew I couldn't sit in another movie, and had to get out of the theater to let the whole movie sink into me for the next few hours.

Anyone else seen it?

Ive seen it, and to be honest, I really did not care for it. You spend the whole movie wondering what is going on and you only find out at the end. If it had been constructed better for my taste, I'm sure I would've liked it more. It did have a good message of making up for past mistakes.

Yeah, it's an awesome movie.

I have also watched The Wrestler this weekend, I wasn't expecting too much but it was a very pleasant surprise!

I was a little disappointed by it, because I figured out pretty much exactly how it would end only a few minutes into the movie...

That somehow didn't take away from the story to me. Although I can certainly see how it could for someone else.

I've very rarely been surprised by the unfolding plot of a movie...nothing new under the sun and all that...so for me it's the nuance of the performances, the cinematography, all that that make a film like this beautiful.

Slightly off topic, but I'd be interested to hear a movie recommendation from you, Jim (or anyone else), for a movie that would not dissapoint by being so easy to figure out. (Truly, that is not sarcasm or anything...in reading it it comes across kinda testy to me).

Me too, I cried at the end. So beautiful, and amazing.

Ok, this movie isn't a mystery puzzle thingy. This isn't a movie where you try to figure things out.

This movie is meant to be enjoyed....to let it soak into you. To let the love, the consideration, the story flow into you. Stay present, stay in the now, and let this movie affect you deeply.

That happened for me with "The Pool."

No, but I wasn't even trying. Maybe it's because I've read to many books on screenwriting (i.e. if a gun is introduced in act 1 it has to go off in act 3), but this one was just too predictable for me to get really invested in the story...

The Mist, The Visitor and, if you haven't seen it yet, 13 Monkeys as well.

I just saw The Visitor this weekend (I got tons of recommendations to see it, since I'm a drummer!), and I thought it was gorgeous and sad and amazing and uplifting.

I loved, loved, loved his huge smile while in the drum circle. That's exactly how it happens! :heart smilie:

Have you seen Breaking the Waves? That one got me, completely unexpected. I've only seen it the once, when it came out (12 years ago!) and it has stayed with me since. I've actually rented it a couple times, but couldn't bring myself to watch it, it's so... heartbreakingly beautiful. I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed when I saw it. (And fell totally in love with Emily Watson, of course)

No, haven't seen it... sounds interesting, though, after Dancer in the Dark, I'm a little hesitant about watching Lars von Trier movies.

Breaking the Waves was difficult to watch - but it has a more uplifting ending. Well, for me, it was. I've also had some really great discussions around women & identity & sacrifice & purpose with friends who have seen it.

I also think "Once Were Warriors" has an uplifting and hopeful ending - even though you go through horrid stuff to get there. So I have friends who disagree that that's a hopeful movie. (It is! It is!) It's not exactly like that, Breaking the Waves is more... mystical (? if that's the right word?).

Here's a nice intention manifestation: Danger Man's in SAG, and they start mailing screener videos and invitations to live screenings around this time of year for the SAG awards.

We just got the invitation to see "The Visitor." Yay! What a delightful surprise.

We also got a copy of The Dark Knight, which I've been meaning to see -- I hear it's very good. Now I'm holding the intention that Slumdog Millionaire arrive today!

Before seeing it, I read the summary on imdb so I was convinced I would like it. I think I was able to enjoy it better because I knew what was going on. It was also much sadder knowing that he will die. I love Will Smith's movies a lot. It's interesting that he's such a cheerful person in general, but he can make such deep and sad movies.

I've seen 12 Monkeys. I really like that movie and it's true, I didn't know exactly where they were going.

I'll check out the others as well. Thanks!

It's amazing, apparently the director founds some young people in India (non-actors) and had them play themselves, more or less. Some of them couldn't read, so they had to learn their lines by rote!

And they are astonishing -- the two young men (boys, really) in the leads just broke my heart, they were so beautiful and funny and full of emotion and vitality. I almost never buy movies, but I will buy this one when it comes out.
