| Color career test Late last night I distracted myself from my work (I'm so good at that!) when I found this online test to find out my ideal career. Turns out I'm a CREATOR: Nonconforming, Impulsive, Expressive, Romantic, Intuitive, Sensitive, and Emotional and a PERSUADER: Witty, Competitive, Sociable, Talkative, Ambitious, Argumentative, and Aggressive Yeah, that all sounds about right. Give it a try and see what comes up for you! does it seem accurate? (warning: It takes a few minutes, and in other parts of the site they try to sell you stuff.) |

You're a Social Investigator You learn through watching others or by analyzing how things are made. When you watch others, you're drawn to their energy as if you were watching TV. You see each person's contribution. |

| You're a Scientific ThinkerWeirdly enough, it does seem accurate. I don't understand how it would come up with that result just from what colors I picked, though. I often get that kind of result from tests that ask you actual questions - for instance, I tend to get the result INTJ or INTP whenever I take a Myers-Brigg Type Indicator test. Best wishes, Apollia |

You're a Spiritual Wizard You are on a journey to investigate who and what really matters in your life. In the beginning, everything seems to work. After a while, though, you are better able to recognize the focal point of your passions. |

I have to wonder why this works. Why would certain personality types be drawn to certain hues? Then again, it makes sense why I wonder why this works, being that I'm a: * Problem Solver You are constantly considering what else each person or situation requires. You want to know what is missing. During this period of mulling things over, others might view you as passive or quiet. Hah. Cool. |

You're an Entertainer By paying close attention to everyone's emotions, you better understand yourself and others. Your exciting, concerned energy compels people to express themselves. When you hear how others feel, you clearly see their kindness, love, pain, and fear. w00t ;o? Extremely acurrate though. |

My results: So the part of me that likes to have things be logically sound so that they're accurate says, "there's not enough variables to accurately gauge what's going on; if you pick a few colours differently, your results would probably differ a fair amount." This leads me to think, "yep, that end result must be pretty generalised." I may want to listen to other people's hopes and concerns, but that's so I can come up with a solution. The actual practice generally weakens me. I much prefer to maximise situations that are positive--or, at least, doing so strengthens me while maximising situations where I encounter resistance, or where the situation is in a negative state, weakens me. I kind of feel colour is a not-so-good way to figure out the configuration of your brain. You could say that it's trying to measure vibration tolerance, or something, and your inclination towards certain vibrations, but then you could also say that your brain is the result of vibration (I have a pretty holistic, inclusive, open-minded model of reality). I think I chose the colours that I did because they were weren't very bright and searing. No matter how much I like a colour, if it burns my eyes, I don't want to look at it (and hence, will not mark down that I prefer it). You may notice that the one thing I'm doing now--maximising potential by ruling out something that I don't deem to be decently effective--is the one thing it didn't hit on. I probably sound like a sceptic, but no, it's just that I care so much about potential that it pains me to see something that doesn't very accurately align with reality. When you hit on solutions that align with reality, they have a certain amazing elegance; they just work. This test is ok, but probably not something you want to use to guide your career choices that much. The result descriptions seem to want to pigeonhole you into a paradigm instead of digging deep enough to find what's really going on under your hood. I'm able to say this because I've spent the last year or so getting a pretty good idea of what's under my hood, so I can say to what degree something is accurate accurately. The key with any model is that it needs to be accurate, or mostly accurate. If it has errors carried through, the results will be fuzzy and erroneous, not matching what actually occurs in reality. Dewey colour system creators: you will probably have a decent system if you can dig deeper. As a rule, something is accurate when it is able to show you something about yourself that was there, but you were previously unconscious of. Since we live in our "frame," when something describes it, it often takes us a while to realise what we're actually doing since we're so accustomed to it. | |

I should probably mention, if anyone is thinking of paying the $9.95 for the Dewey Color System Profile, consider buying this book and taking the test within it instead: Amazon.com: StrengthsFinder 2.0: A New and Upgraded Edition of the Online Test from Gallup's Now, Discover Your Strengths: Tom Rath: Books You can even get free 2-day shipping if you're an American and use the Amazon Prime trial that Amazon keeps trying to show me (as an Aussie, I don't qualify for Amazon Prime; darn). StrengthsFinder will permanently change the way you look at life. It does require a fair bit of understanding before you figure out how to actually apply knowledge of your talents, but it's do-able. I'm improving at it, and am now at a point where I can consistently, holistically apply my talents and strengths effectively. If it seems like I talk about StrengthsFinder often, that's just because it's ridiculously good and not many people realise it. Even those who've taken it don't realise it, heh (as I said, it takes a bit of understanding before the information becomes actionable; reaching that point is worth it). Dewey colour systems: the bad news is that Gallup interviewed over 2 million people to get the result that is the StrengthsFinder 2.0 test. The good news is that with the right talents and strengths, you can create something that is equally as accurate with proper extrapolation and intelligent assumed truths. But it's probably best to leave Gallup to StrengthsFinder and pioneer forward in another area. |

You're an Information Junkie You seek information to gain self-recognition. You take things apart to analyze how they are made, and then wonder why they weren't made another way. You try to concentrate on learning pertinent facts and are aware that what is now in vogue will eventually become dated. oh oh...just as I was thinking that I spend too much time on the internet... |

You're a Resource Director You're all about setting priorities and maximizing the benefits you can receive from the things in your life. You may appear direct and focused on the issues at hand, but you're also deeply interested in the underlying dynamics of different relationships. You motivate people to take a closer look at their lives. Does that sound like me? I guess it's in the right ballpark at least - not so sure about the "maximizing" bit, though... |

| You're a Dream Maker You experience a sense of personal harmony when you help people. Your capacity to listen and offer suggestions allows them to become more aware of what they need. They gain a balanced perspective. I don't put a ton of stock in this stuff, but I have to say, this isn't untrue... |

I can't see how they can tell anything about you by your color preference, though... It's nice to get such a compliment, though. Even if it IS totally unfounded. |

I just noticed there are two different versions of the color test: one of them gives you just a tiny little description, which is the one I linked to, and the other one is the Career Predictor. I'm sorry! If you are interested, you can do this other one and get a bit more info -- maybe more interesting. But you have to fill out a form with email first. |

You're a Facilitator You seek to know about spiritual values to understand better the meaning of life and create a sense of purpose. You analyze each feeling you encounter and try to envision possibilities. Your intense interest allows you to focus on getting things done. On edit... fa·cil·i·tate - To make easy or easier. Haha.. that's funny. 'Ease' is one of my doorways to conscious manifestation. Last edited by Dharma; 09-23-2008 at 05:47 AM. |
