| Yeah it's great - definitely worth getting. If you played the first one, this is way better. Interesting that you bring it up, as I've been working on a blog post about personal development, life management based on the Sims

I have come to the realization that treating life as a game, a simulation, and looking it from a third person perspectives makes the whole experience far more fun and enlightening. I am getting the Sim to put me in to that habit. Anyhow which expansion packs do you recommend. I currently have my eyes set upon University and Apartment life. | Sims 3 is coming out in 2009. Check out the trailer, it look wild. |

| The Sims 2 taught me how to slow down and enjoy life. Only on the Sims can you choose how fast things go. Right? Not really. I noticed I was less likely to use the speed buttons if I wasn't trying to get the sim to graduate, marry, grow up, give birth, or whatever. That was hard to do sometimes, but there were some sims I could kind of be 'in the moment' with. |

| It depends. My partner much preferred Sims 1. She's not a hardcore gamer, and she found the whole "having to control the camera" aspect of Sims2 an annoying chore that drained the fun out of the game. I also found the camera-control thing a bit annoying (I don't like the newer RTSes for the same reason) but got the hang of it pretty quickly - it wasn't a dealbreaker for me, and I enjoyed the improved graphical prettiness the 3d view enabled. I didn't much like the new features - having your sims age and die, in particular, didn't appeal. And the new aspiration system felt like making you jump through hoops to keep you busy. I enjoyed Sims 2, but I lost interest in it a lot faster than Sims 1. Your mileage may vary. P.S. I am sooooo looking forward to Spore.

| Well my bias is that I bought the first one and I found it to be incredibly (insert word here!!!) Yeah, just boring and pointless and clearly based on overly simplistic formulas for healthy living. In fact I think this game could be quite dangerous for a child because it seems to encourage linear thinking - eg. exercise the mind = play chess. Or that one must have leasure time every day or they become stressed. People need to be creative and think for themselves. Although, I appreciate the philososophy that someone on this thread mentioned - that life is a game. I play many computer games and I believe there is sooooo much truth in them. eg.: 1. Life starts out very challenging and hard - but challenges are fun - especially when you overcome them. 2. There's nothing better in a game when you have developed all your skills, practiced, learned from experience, gained all the technology etc. - then the old enemies and obstacles that used to cause you so much bother no longer bother you. [Enlightenment, mastery.] But after a time this becomes boring and you long for the challenge of starting the game over and going through all the struggles and challenges all over again. Same in life [karmic wheel] 3. In a game it is so much fun - it is easy to see that it doesn't matter if your character wins or loses or crashes or gets injured or dies even. You know there is really no way to be hurt - its just a game right? a fantasy - if you die you can play again and again. [What if life was the same? (it is)] Your soul is immortal and cannot be displeased or injured. One other thing which may be slightly off topic but I'll mention it anyway - I think it is quite possible to improve your life through computer games via LOA. After all life is just experience is it not? When you experience the lovely wonder of an in-game environment and enjoy the satisfaction of victory - how can that not translate to real life? Of course it does. Think about it. |

| Hmm, what was it that a friend of mine once said, "We want to feel achievement so we play video games". I think that describes The Sims series very well. Don't you agree?

| I, for one, found it quite appealing. The children are annoying as heck, and I like seeing my sims have a lineage. But you can type in the cheat 'aging off'. |
