Default Brain Age

Quick online test to check your short term memory. Select the numbers as they were displayed from lowest to highest.

I'm 27 and got a 29, then a 25.

Brain Age

I got 104, I think, but I can't remember.

I'm 21.

Using the mouse instead of a Nintendo DS stylus and the random circle placement put me off.

(Notice, in order, the irony, humour, lame excuses, and humour? )

I got a 25, and I'm 32. But really, I think this test is also more about how fast you can see stuff and recognize numbers. Sometimes, I didn't have the time to look over all the numbers before the screen asked me what it was.

I almost never put much importance into tests like this. On another forum someone posted a reaction time test and there also I got far from the best results. It's cool and all if you have a 0.000001sec reaction time or can memorize 10 numbers and their locations in one second, but in real life, such abilities almost never get their use.

Excuses...

Yeah, I can see how there is a lot more to it than a simple test like this can tell. It's kind of cool to have a reminder to keep your mind sharp though...kind of how the "Real Age" test shows you how what you do to your body ages you beyond your years...kind of a wake up call?

My excuse is that I started the test without really understanding what I was supposed to be doing. I think I will try it again and see if I get better results .

I'm curious, what techniques you people used when doing this exercise.

I mean, I personally read the numbers out loud when I saw them. Then I could repeat that sequence and choose the right circles. Just sometimes it went wrong.

But I'm not so good at mentally photographing the screen and then choosing the circles.

Well, aside from how poorly I did on this exercise, I've always considered myself to have a somewhat "photographic" memory. In school I would read the assigned text and leave it at that. Then on test day, I would picture in my mind the page where the answer was and read it back to myself in my head...if that makes sense. I think I used the same technique here, only the information was coming much more quickly, so some adaption would be needed to use it competently.

I closed my eyes immediately after the numbers dissapear. Found it helped me keep the picture in my memory until i could read it all. Using this techinque i managed eight numbers. (brain age 20) What level did you get to?

I had fun with this....third time I got a 28, then fourth time I was back to 29. Curious to see if this would happen to Dan if he took it a third and fourth time.
