Has anyone seen this, I know its been out for a few years, but my old girlfriend was obsessed with it. She watched it 47 times in a month & said it changed her outlook on life completely. I watched it & thought it was the cheesiest piece of crap movie I had ever seen. I think I missed the meaning. Has anyone seen this & understood the 'outlook' part. She was really psychic at the time too

Hey Marth. I saw 'Donnie Darko' very recently, for the first time, and yeah, I loved it, it's a very good movie if you manage to see beyond the 'cheesy piece of crap'. In my opinion there are a few outlooks to this movie, but Donnie's process is the biggest one. Leaving the time traveling aside (Donnie time travels all the time between 'parallel worlds'), what Donnie is doing through out the whole movie is finding his own purpose/ reason to live. If you payed attention, you noticed that he isn't quite satisfied with the life he's leaving, but in the end, after all the time traveling, when he understands that in order for his family/friends/girlfriend to live he has to die, he finally makes piece with his life and accepts it as good thing. Now, he having to die might be a little to much for what we're willing to accept for our own lives. I don't think many people lives' purposes is dying to save others (or maybe it is?), but the important thing is looking inside yourself to find your purpose, your reasons to live (or die) and make piece with it or be happy about it. There is A LOT more to see and review on 'Donnie Darko'. I'm not a great movie reviewer myself, but if you're truly interested, first watch the movie again with a more open mind and then go to the IMDB forums. There are plenty of theories, explanations and reviews. If you don't mind the geeky comments and 'crazy' theories, you'll enjoy reading that. At least I know I did. Hope that helped. Fernando

I thought Donnie Darko was good, but I thought Frequency (which touches on similar themes) was better.

I hate movies that have to be explained on Wikipedia. The last one I saw like that was The Two Sisters, a Korean masterpiece of massive symbolism vomited onto celluloid. Just wacky. I got some kind of website where this dude made it his life's work to translate the film so it makes sense. Which it now does. Jennifer |

Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies. Top ten list, pretty easily. Quote:
I thought it was awesome. I love the music, and how he gets to call everyone out on their bad deeds in that reality.. Spooky too. | |
