| San Francisco, beautiful place but it seems this year (yet again) we are getting ready for our second winter (summer is San Francisco that is). I hate the cold and I hate being hot, so I kindly ask forum members to help me out, I need to manifest living in a location in the United States that has a constant range of mid 60s to high 70s weather for most of the year. If you happen to live in this magical place please give me coordinates (tell me where I will never figure out the coordinates). I understand we have to have winter, why? I don't really care, but one is enough. It is May here in SF and the sun is gone and will not return until after labor day (or maybe for a total of 7 to 10 days for the entire summer, which I am sure I will be out of town), though all I have to do is drive 10 minutes out of the city to get too much sun. Why don't I just move there you ask? It is cold at night in the Bay Area. Can you believe just once in the last 4 years of my memory have I walked outside at night and it was warm I love this city but I have spent the last 6 years sitting in front of the heater, I am ready to move somewhere, where I can turn the darm thing off. I am grateful for living in this little slice of heaven (which is the reason I have not moved north, south or east of here – Pacific Ocean to the west – not bad location but still cold and wet) but I want to take my sweater, socks and scarf off. PLEASE HELP, I am looking for Good Weather PS North facing apartment, not helping... Thanks

| Better not come to New England then! It's May, the lilacs are in bloom and the trees are finally leafing out. It's just beautiful! Last night it was warm and breezy and every where you went you could hear the sounds of kids out playing. However, by late July it will be oppressively hot and humid, and by late October, down right bone chilling!! |

I've lived in quite a few very warm spots -- Brazil, Portugal, Maui -- and I love being able to run around comfortably at night, jumping into the ocean at midnight and having it be nice and warm (look out for sharks!) and not owning a coat. |

| Honey, My problem started after my first East Coast winter in NYC, moved there in January 2004 one of the coldest winter they had on record, stayed four months and moved right back to the west coast turned my heater on and I have never turned it off since then. I was back in NY last year in January for 2 weeks the cherry blossoms were blooming and I took naps in the sun when Manhattan was 70 degrees, did not need any of the heavy snow gear I took. It was heaven. Other than that crazy global warming moment, the only times I visit NY is September, love autumn, no autumn here, and late spring, any other time it is just insane (for me that is). By the way, after that warm summer January in NY I returned to SF to below freezing temps (record temps), I had snow boots and a down coat on (though there was no snow but I simply unpacked my NYC gear). So I have cross that east coast off my list, but I do love NYC. Thanks

| Santa Cruz, California. I could see myself living here my whole life. In the winter it can get pretty chilly, but hasn't snowed here in 30 years. Then the spring, summer and fall are amazing. The only problem is during the summer, everyday there is fog in the morning, but 95% of the time that burns off by about 10:30-12. And september-ish is the hottest, because we don't get fog that time of year, but it's still hot. So basically, I describe the year round average temperature here as: Perfect.

| Dilman, spent a week in Santa Cruz, you are right about the weather, but I think you still require a sweater at night, if memory serves me well. But I will give you great weather, quite area and you do have that lovely ocean. JimOfferman, Sissy?, Neatherlands? I am not a sissy when it comes to the cold, I am a WUSS Later,

| does smog count as good weather? i just moved to LA this year and i'm considering leaving. i lived with my family in hawaii for two years and i go with that suggestion. it's beautiful there. they say if you can survive the initial island fever after a year you'll never want to leave. guess my family didn't survive it. |

| Sabertooth, what is island fever? Sounds awful.

| Tabs, I live in and absolutely love NY but you are right about our winters and the summer is the exact opposite, it can get oppressively hot and humid. I have lived here all of my life but have also thought I would like to try living somewhere else to see what it would be like. Its not an easy thing for me to choose. My roots are here, my family, friends and an energy that I have not seen anywhere else. I have traveled extensively in Europe and the US and have always enjoyed every place that I have visited but there are very few where I feel I would be happy to make a permanent home. One of the places I would love to try living in is Hawaii Another place that gives me similar goosebumps is the West coast of Ireland. Raw beauty that just stays with me. Another lush green island that feels very out there and very spiritual as well. The biggest and most obvious difference is the weather. Even though Kauai and Maui boast two of the rainiest spots on the planet, that rainfall is contained in the rainforest areas. Ireland is a very wet place across the country. Another thing I love about Ireland is the traditional music and dance, very uplifting against the climate... When the sun does shine in Ireland though it is a sight to see... Good luck with your search. Let us know where you land. Last edited by IFeelGood : 05-12-2008 at 05:58 AM. |

| Ifeelgood, Thank you so much for your input the vivid pictures you painted, I am now looking forward to my trip to Hawaii in November even more, thank you. The Islands do seem to have a very spiritual energy to them whenever I see pictures. I always think of Wayne Dyer anytime I see the sand and surf. Though I am scared of large bodies of water, by the way I am a water sign, need to live by large bodies of water, but I will not get into any water that does not have chlorine in it. Thanks again ,

| Tabs, I've been watching this hread with great interest as I too have had it with being cold in San Francisco and have been "threatening" to move to Hawai'i for the past 6 months at least. (This amuses my friends as I grew up in New England but left because I couldn't handle the winters there. Now I'm a total Cold Weather Wuss. You didn't mention whether you're a city or a country person, but I'm a city person so I've been wondering if Hawai'i will be too small for me. (San Francisco's the smallest place I've consistently lived to date.) It certainly is beautiful and the people were largely friendly (I was lucky enough to travel there last year). For me, I am a little concerned about how much of day-to-day goods have to be shipped over from the mainland. With oil prices doing what they've been doing, I'm worried that Hawai'i will feel the inflationary bite worse than the rest of the US. For what it's worth, I've also considered Santa Barbara, which I'm guessing has similar weather to LA but without the LA-ness. (Note to our LA friends: it's my limitations speaking, not those of the City of Angels.Although during our recent frost last month, I must confess I briefly contemplated LA.) But, again, there's the "small" city factor with SB, for me. I had to rule out Phoenix, New Orleans and Austin as too hot (not for me, but for my job). Hawai'i has that factor but its siren call and its warmth almost tempt me to change careers (hehe). I'm up in Calistoga as I type this and the weather's ideal. If only it would stay this way year-round, I might even "forgive" the very "small town" mentality of the Napa Valley and figure out how to pay for a move up here! Good luck, Tabs, with your decision and please keep those suggestions/ideas coming, friends! (And, truly, I did not mean to disparage anyone's home in my comments above. My judgements were in relation to my own needs/conditioning. I envy you all who've found a place that feels like home to you and you each give me hope that there's such a place out there for me as well!) |

| So weather is the main factor of you moving? That's awesome lol. I wouldn't recommend coming up here to WA, weather isn't consistent at all. I'd rather have 4 seasons than 1. |

I already live there, mid 60s in the summer with wind chill in the 50's. It was 40 degrees two night ago. You get in the car and it is a sauna and you get out of the car and you need a coat. We have two seasons here winter and spring. I am just tired of being cold all the time. BTW, I love WA, Seattle is one of my favorite places in the world, I think it is so beautiful, the colors, I don't even mind the rain, I will live there, I just feel after one year I will either stay forever or leave forever. Later,

| Try the IE Inland So. Cal (the I.E.) is warm and only 1 hour from forest, mountains, desert or ocean. It can get pretty hot depending on where exactly you live, but there are enough options to find a spot that will agree with your constitution. |

| Dan, Marin is warm during the day but still cold at night and colder than SF in the winter, remember Novato or had below freezing last month, below freezing. Thanks MI3, I will check out Inland. Thanks again everyone,

| Hey, Tabs... Danger Man and I will be in Hawaii (Maui) in November, too, for Thanksgiving week. Which island are you going to? Island fever, by the way, is the oppressive feeling of needing to get off of a stinkin' island! It's kind of like claustrophobia. I certainly got it after a couple of years on Maui -- when I realized everyone one the island was excited to the point of tizzy about an upcoming Kenny Loggins concert. There's a lack of cultural and intellectual diversity that can feel sort of.... well, if you're used to the big city, you might get a little antsy. The incredible beauty and richness of Hawaiian culture is just not enough sometimes! We would like to work it out so that we can fly back and forth often to the mainland. |

| Angela, I am going to Kauai, first week in November for a week, my first visit to any of the island.
