Default Jump/techno/trance music?

I was making some music with new software, and I was given some Jump and Techno music(thank you creativity).

Anybody here on the forums into this kind of music? I really don't have a clue about the quality or hotness of the music, so if here are some lovers of this style of music, feel free to comment!

greetings friend,

I've been involved and enthused by the electronic music scene for a number of years now... and I still can't keep track of all the different and amazing kinds of music. the beats you linked to in your post were catchy and I liked them... but child's play compared to some of the amazing technique you'll find out there. I tend to gravitate to the more melodic, psychedelic, and spiritually tickling sounds....

now if you made this music yourself, don't be offended when I say that it's child's play. it's actually skillfully executed and if you don't know electronic music at all, it's kind of like a 5 year old painting a mona lisa. you have an ear for this kind of stuff. I dare you to develop it because you can take it to INCREDIBLE places. you already have the basic foundations of song structure in place and your unique creative style shines through. creating music on the pc is something I've begun to do.... and I can't rave enough about the medium. you don't need a band if you have compositional skill and you don't need instruments if you have samples. keep up the awesome work!!

some recommendations that anybody could appreciate:

*Shpongle - Nothing Lasts But Nothing is Lost (psychedelic downtempo)
*Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom (psytrance - POWERFUL stuff!)
*Pendulum - Hold Your Color (the funnest Drum and Bass I've heard)
*Govinda - Worlds Within (hypnotic gypsy trance - beautiful for awakening the spirit)

Heya, thanks for the comment.

I will definitely develop my skills, and I would love to do something spiritual with it. I already heard about Infected Mushroom but the other groups I will take a listen to. Making music on a pc is indeed wonderful.

Peace

I'm a fanatic for electronica, ran a nightclub here in Syd and alot of my friends are big DJs here in the scene.

Electronica is so broad, every genre has a hundred sub genres, you need to find a genre you like and go from there.

Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible, (seen Simon Posford and Raja Ram live, they are two of the most talented musicians on earth.)

Try and get a hold of Sasha and Digweeds Northern Exposure
Amazon.com: Northern Exposure, Vol. 1: Sasha & John Digweed: Music

Sasha - Airdrawndagger
Sasha - Involver
James Holden - Balance 005
James Holden - At the Controls

the two best mixes to come out recently, "Joris Voorn - Resident Adviser Podcast" IMO Joris Voorn is the best DJ on the planet today, he fuses techno with soulful house i have seen him live a few times and he never disapoints

the new Balance CD by SOS is also amazing.

Hello,

I started listening to electronic music about two years ago.
There are all sorts of music, artist and rythms.

My favorite artist is 'Aphex Twin'. He does mostly breakcore. (Breakcore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Then I would say 'Ferry Corsten' which is trance.

And here's a bunch of other artist that I really like.
- Venetian Snares
- Outputmessage
- Amon Tobin
- Boards of Canada
- Sigur Ros
- Kai Tracid

oooh I like MUD - I could imagine dancing to this!

Yeah! is good and has a good shape to it, but I feel it is missing a drum or something if you know what I mean. IMO it needs another subtle pattern working through it. Not sure if that makes sense. I don't really know how to describe what I mean!

Yes like blueberry said - you definitely have an ear for this kind of music. If this is new to you then I am really impressed! Keep at it, hang around with djs and find out what they look for to get the dancefloor moving. Keep on making music and sharing it with us

I've been using the Fruityloops Production Bundle for a while now. You can easily make some quality software. The Bundle itself is about $400 bucks or so. In my opinion, as far as music creation software goes.. that's the best bang for the buck by far.

I have listened to Xenobiotic. I like it very much. I think you have great potential for creating electronic music.

If you'd like to, I can give you some technical advice on your producing technique. Things which you might not be aware of yet:
- use extremely polished EQs separately on every instrument
- use compressors and expanders separately on every instrument
- use more effects generated from noise to join parts together ("squiissshh" and stuff like that)
- use percussions like rimshots and shakers
- use crash cymbals to separate parts
- use more effects like delays, reverbs, sometimes chorus, flanger and phaser too (perhaps on the sends of a mixer so you can easily experiment with them on each channel)
- use multiple samples in the place of one (e.g. try 3 different kinds of claps together, or a clap + a rimshot etc; 2 open hihats, one for mid-eq gain, one for the highs)
- use 2 separate instruments for low-bass (below 150Hz) and mid-bass (around 250-300Hz); they may even play different rhythms to be more exciting
- use LFOs, filter and volume envelopes and automation to make a song much more "alive"
- learn sidechaining to compress the bassdrum and the bass together
- use some tool in the end for mastering; something like izotope ozone or a simple multiband compressor (I prefer the latter)

These are some of the things that make an electronic music (and basically everything you hear on the radio and in the clubs today -- not only EDM but RnB and stuff like that) sound professional.

Regarding software, my personal favorite are Cubase and Reason (both have different benefits and I use them in sync through rewire) and the Waves bundle. They are all very professional and used by many big names in the industry. It's not about the software though but the knowledge and technique that you gain over the years but professional software is much more flexible which gives you more freedom and that helps a lot.

Keep producin' mate!

I like trance, though I can't say I'm an expert on it. I had friends back in high school who were more knowledgeable. They would frequent the World Electronic Music Festival, which was held yearly near where I live. Unfortunately, from what they told me, that event had copious amounts of drugs, alcohol, and milfs, so I never attended. Here is a link one of them gave me that gives you samples of different types of electronic music.

This is the kind of thread I always end up discovering new music from.... it's the best thing about the "long tail" and music.... before u had to read in a magazine or hunt around in a record store to find something cool -- which made the choices always subject to the "gatekeeping" of editors and music store buyers and etc... -- which would lead inevitably to mediocrity and the prevalence of "poser music" -- i.e. stuff that you want to like because you think it's cool, not because you really like it. Music journalism especially creates high-profiles for really lame stuff, because journalists are always looking behind their backs, trying to profile something that they think in 2 years people will think they were cool for liking "way back when".... I GREATLY prefer the democratic nature of threads like these, where people simply list their tastes and you can just look something up on itunes or youtube and check it out for yourself....

These days I'm really into techno and techno/rock and stuff like that -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Most of them I got (LEGALLY) from this list on itunes -- http://electricnation2010.com/tracks
