Sponsored road trip, Denmark->South Africa

As a part of a new website I'm thinking of launching, I've thought of a few "projects" for it, this being one of them.

Just as a briefer, the website is basically a fundraiser for me (and a few other people--those who are interested), for doing some extreme projects... I'm posting this here to see if anyone would consider donating to this.

The idea for a first project is a road trip from Denmark->South Africa (Well, the more funds the more south). It involes buying an Opel Kadett, insuring it, HD-Video cam, and then driving all the way there--of course video-blogging to our best efforts. The rough budget I just did is approximately $8000.

What makes me think people might donate? Imagine me, and a couple of guys, in the middle of nowhere (Sahara desert?), short of gas. Video-blogging it.

What do you guys think? Is this feasible?

(More specification on concept: Anyone who donated will get download acces to the videos in HD-format, companies could sponsor to get their logo on the car etc.)

You have three options:

Invest your own money and then try to make a profit from the video etc. after the journey is completed.

Get companies to sponsor your project in lieu of advertisement.

Ask people for donations, which I personally believe would be asking for handouts.
