^ Glad you're okay, doll face.

I got a call from my former coworkers about it. Mind you, I am terrified of earthquakes as an east coaster! Love plate techtonics - hate earthquakes. Heh.

I actually felt one here in Detroit of all places. You wouldn't expect that sort of thing here, but there's actually a fault line down in Ohio somewhere. Every once in a blue moon we'll get something in the 3 - 4 range. Several years ago, I was in the lobby of my office building on the second out of three floors. All of a sudden, the building starting rumbling like someone was loading a large photocopier onto the elevator on the floor above. I took a look down the length of the building and could see all the windows flexing. It was very surreal. That night on the news they reported a quake in the high 3's, low 4's range.

Hope you are all okay! Danger Man called me from SF last night a little shaken up by it, too.

Those long, slow, roley ones can be fun, like surfing.

I hope all your folks are safe.

That reminds me of a couple of pics I saw after Katrina hit, there was a white couple in a row boat with some bags of groceries - the caption read something like "couple in a boat after acquiring groceries", there was another almost identical shot right after it, very obviously taken in the same spot but this time the couple was black. The caption was "couple in boat after looting groceries".

Yikes! Hope everyone's ok. I think that would freak me out.

Tornados are a fact of life here in the alley but at least we (usually!) get advance warning.

I remember 3 when I lived in CT and one since moving to NC. All baby quakes in the low 4 range.

Even these were humbling to me, a mere mortal.

Experienced one in Vancouver once. It was a Friday night, just after 9pm and I was sitting on the couch when I felt the couch sort of heave. At first I thought it was my dog - he was a 100 lb beast - laying beside me but the heaving continued for a while. The dog looked up at me as if to way, "WTF?" so I knew it wasn't him.

The whole episode only lasted about 15 seconds, no damage, apparently centred a couple of hundred miles away, low magnitude of 3 or 4 or so.

i just moved to the pac nw (portland). I've been hearing we're supposed to get a massive one one of these days with a giant tsunami to boot. I remember reading a mega quake in Anchorage, AK (like a 9+, in 1964 I think) actually killed some people on the oregon coast...

Between that and all the volcanoes; it's just how I like my natural disasters. Rare, spectacular and devastating...
