you should've seen the look on the medical store guy's face when i went to buy some condoms. he was embarassed and later i found out that he was just some guy hanging around in the store and i had to call for the real store attendant! that was fun!!

Okay, Here's a conundrum. I'm allergic to latex. (Ouch - are you imagining the pain? ). The old lambskin condoms are fine for birth-control, but not disease protection. For a while there were some plastic (non-latex) condoms on the market, but I haven't seen them lately. Are they still available?

I was recently divorced and have been concentrating more on myself lately than on relationships, but I don't intend to stay celibate forever, so any advice for the latex impaired?

Lubrication in women is highly variable, and a lot of things can affect it: age, genetics, general health, medications, time of the month, etc...

Never discount lube as "superfluous" for the man who "knows what he's doing." That's hogwash. A lot of women can be turned on in a lusty daze of "do me" and still not be wet. The area in question may need a LOT of direct manual stimulation before lubrication even begins. Adding a little lube can make the whole process much more comfortable and safer* for the lady in question.
*Natural lubrication is rarely enough to prevent micro-tears in the walls of the vagina, which opens up a risk for STDs for the woman. Keeping in mind that these tears always occur during sex, but extra lube minimizes them.

Nobody is too good for lube.

No, I don't think it would matter. But you have to use I think only water based lube with condoms. There's a rule you have to follow on the type to use because it'll kill the latex.

Hah, you make a valid point. I never said I would atest to it, I just never came across the need. I figured it's either 1. novelty, 2. unarousal, or 3. size. Honestly, I didn't think that that many women had problems getting wet. Thanks for the female perspective

Water-based is fine with latex -- you may be thinking of the no silicone-with-silicone rule. If you use a silicone lubricant with a silicone toy, it will start to dissolve.

My parents would be horrified if they knew the extent of my knowlege on this subject... heh.

For those of you who are extra studious, look up the "AFE zone". Stimulation in this area (usually) helps women self-lubricate relatively quickly. That being said, I've never known a lady to turn down some lube.

You can use lube without a condom, too. Latex seems to cause more friction than skin-to-skin contact, though.

In my experience, lack of lubrication can definitely cause condom breakage by causing it to tighten up, losing the reservoir at the tip. For that reason, my wife and I nearly always use it with condoms. A woman's natural lubrication WILL vary, guys. Stay with her long enough and you'll see.

Condom-wise, my preference is for Trojan Magnums. Nearly any of the Trojan ones will work, but the bigger ones are more comfortable. I've had Durex break on me.

In general, Trojan Magnum, preferably in the shiny gold wrapper (it’s so much prettier than the matte black version). If for some reason a condom is used to perform oral, there are flavored versions one can consider, but avoid anything with spermicide in that case (in any case, spermicides may be worth avoiding, as they can irritate the interior walls and actually increase the chance of transmitting various diseases as a result).

As for lubes, astroglide is great. Avoid oil based lubricants if condoms are being used. If in a relationship where condoms for some reason aren’t being used, virgin coconut oil as a lubricant is great, and it is antiviral/antimicrobial (some people are integrating it into the diet for part of aids therapy now). Also, consider learning ejaculation control, for increased safety and fun

It’s something I learned back when I was 14 and particularly into Daoist techniques. Tantra gets into it as well, as google readily shows. One good article on it is Male Multiple Orgasm * Ejaculation Mastery * Multi Orgasmic Man

Just to be sure I was clear on this particular point (it's very important) : Do Not use coconut oil with latex condoms. Doing so could lead to the condom breaking more easily, as oil dissolves latex. Otherwise, unrefined virgin coconut oil is healthy, plus it tastes, smells, and feels great. There are plenty of fun things to learn yet
