Rowling just earned a little of my respect. That's pretty damn cool and bold.

Yeah, really. I suppose it's relevant because she detailed her characters down to their pube color and their first words as a baby but, for all intents it doesn't matter.

I’m okay with it, just a bit surprised. I have always thought of Dumbledore as asexual, like the Professor on Gilligan’s Island. I do note that Dumbledore admonishes Harry not to be too judgmental (in regards to Snape, Voldemort’s mother, etc.).

This paragraph in book six should have been a dead giveaway :
Half-Blood Prince, page 263 (New York: Arthur A. Levine Books /Scholastic Inc.)

The young Albus Dumbledore’s long hair and beard were auburn. Having reached their side of the street, he strode off along the pavement, drawing many curious glances due to the flamboyantly cut suit of plum velvet that he was wearing.

I assumed it was a wizard thing

Interesting! I never thought about Dumbledore all that much, but it seems Rowling had more to his story than I originally caught on to.

It's amazing and quite disturbing how many negative, hateful, homophobic comments are posted on that story. Who cares? Dumbledore is a badass.

For the purpose of artistic integrity, it matters.

Yes. It couldn't be that the character's sexual orientation had an effect on his world view and Rowling felt that was important to correct and preserve. I mean, this book IS her legacy; she must just be saying that for attention!

Look, for years I've thought Rowling's books were way overrated, that she was kind of a bitch, etc., but I am sure this means something to her. Cut her a break.

A gay genius. Not uncommon. Maybe shes just stereotyping him.

Until this moment, did anyone ever worry about Dumbledore's sexuality? Na...

She is supposed to be writing an Encyclopedia of her wizard world. Maybe this was a little teaser.

Default Writers

Good writers tend to have huge back stories on their characters. This makes it easier when forming their personalities and making them more three dimensional. Sounds like JKR did think of Dumbledore as gay judging from all the flamboyant descriptions.

I'd hit it.

Maybe Dumbledore and Larry Craig should hookup.

I'm partial to Cho, personally.

As for Dumbledore, I completely agree with Jennihul's statement above:

I'm not so sure that this really affects anything.
