Default Not from USA/GB write your countrys five most wellknown songs here!

The song needs to have one out of those four criterias: A) Sung by a band/artist from your own country, B) Written entirely by someone from your country (and probobly even produced by someone from your country as well), C) The Original song is from your country but translated probobly into English or other world wide language or D) All of above or a combination of some of those criterias...

As for me as a Swede...

1) How Great Thow Art (O Store Gud - Any religious person ino Christianity have a thing for this song)
2) Dancing Queen (ABBA)
3) It Must Have been Love (Roxette - The most played song in USA on Radio)
4) Oops, I Did It Again (Max Martin song sung by Britney Spears)
5) The Final Countdown (Europe)

Ah, cdn2wheeler you beat me to it!

I imagine you're looking for more exotic fare but I'll chip in for Canada:

Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
American Woman - The Guess Who
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot
Takin' Care of Business - Bachman Turner Overdrive
Tom Sawyer - Rush

I don't know if they're the most well known. More recent stuff like Barenaked Ladies and Avril Lavigne probably beats them out in current mindshare but whenever someone makes a "top 10" list these are invariably on it. And I imagine Celine Dion and Shania Twain should be up there but...I just can't bring myself to post those.

I wish I could add: Rock You - Helix and Stand Tall - The Killer Dwarfs. And has anyone outside of Canada heard of Gowan?

Last I heard, our dear friend Larry was fronting for a re-formed Styx (less Dennis DeYoung).

Arguably the best song written in Spain is Lennon's Strawberry Fields Forever that he wrote in the South of Spain but besides that... and anyway Strawberry Fields is not very famous/well-known...

Famous Spanish Tunes... well... famous where? lol What is famous here is popular in all the countries that speak Spanish. I guess you mean famous in UK and US... well...
Macarena-Los Del Rio, quite famous cause it went #1 for months... lol... is more famous there than here...
Asereje-Las Ketchup, same story, lol...

I can't go on, it's all silly... the only thing coming from Spain popular there are these kind of things...

When I think about Estonian songs I think about Everybody with Tanel Padar and Dave Benton who won ESC in 2001, such a great song. Among my top 5 favourite winners of ESC...makes me so happy all the time I hear it...

Default Five Well Known Songs

Australian Top 5

I am assuming we are looking at those songs best well known overseas. It is a bit hard to work out what is Australian? There has been many artists who have moved away because of the distance and therefore hard to say are they Australian. This was particularly the case in the 60/70's ie Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John, AC/DC to name a few.

Anyway here is 5 I like

Down Under - Men at Work

A huge song that sold millions. A bit of an anthem in Australia particularly because it was used in 1983 by the Australia II yacht crew as a motivation for the first non American Yacht to win the Americas Cup

Beds are Burning - Midnight Oil

A big band that was amazing live singing songs about important issues.

Georgy Girl - The Seekers

A band from the 60's that didn't last for long. Judith Durham had one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.

Don't Dream it's Over - Crowded House

Part Australian with Kiwi Neil Finn who was the drivng force. Very successful group which continues to get a lot of air play throughout the world

Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden

A brilliant duo who didn't last long enough. The constant travelling shortened this band's career.

Isn't Natalie Imbruglia(Torn) also Australian? Always liked that song.

And I think Savage Garden's best song is actually "To the moon and back".

Yes Natalie Imbruglia is Australian. She was formerly an actor on Neighbours and married to Daniel Johns - Silverchair.

I have both Savage Garden's CD's and love most of their songs. Great in the car.

Do you mean songs that are best known in the country or world-wide?

I know 2,3,5 and maybe 4 (not sure).

Now for Austria:
1. Life is Live / Opus : (in)famous stadion rock song
2. Silent Night : well-known christmas carol
3. Rock me Amadeus / Falco : pop song
4. I am from Austria / Reinhard Fendrich : stupid patriotic song
5. ..... can't think of another one.

I wonder if these songs are known around the world or if they are only world-famous in Austria.
