Planning a visit Australia, need help

Hey guys, first post, and hopfully many more to come. From my first impression, this sites really helpful and just what i'm looking for. and in due time, i'll learn the curves and give some advice myself! But back on topic....

I've been wanting to visit Australia for awhile, long story short, I want to travel and go to a new country, new place, and I picked Australia. I'm trying to figure out the little details I should look into. Places to stay, how much money I need, how to get a Workers Permit, etc...

*What are Youth Hostels?* My sister said they are places youth can stay at when traveling. But from my search on web, it looks like a holtel for backpackers.

*How do I get a workers Permit* and do I need one to get a job in Aussy?

*What are other things I need to know* when traveling to another country?

Thanks in advanced guys.

Movie characters who brag continuously and exude confidence

Along the years, I have made many improvements in my life thanks to movie characters who inspired me. Right now, I am into characters who are very bold, obnoxious and sure of themselves, and also who like to brag a lot about how awesome they are. One thing that I took from such characters was learning to speak with a more firm, confident voice.

Here is my list so far. It may sound a little bizzare, but I do not see the attitude that I'm looking for very often:

* Maverick from Top Gun (Tom Cruise's character)
* Barney from "How I Met Your Mother" - sure of his opinions, always bragging
* The guy from "The Ugly Truth", although I was not really enthusiastic about the character
* Will Smith from The Fresh Prince (and many other of his movies)
* Beatrice Kiddo from Kill Bill 1 and 2 - she boldly cut 88 crazy samurais. It takes determination :)
* Seven of Nine from Star Trek - super-intelligent, always sure of herself, in control and with a little bit of borg arrogance.
* Q, Cardassians and the Female Changeling and Data in this scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0otnIuQiGG0).
* Vulcans, who may never admit the are capable of bragging, but they sure know how to piss people off with their self-righteousness.
* Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica - the best Viper pilot ever and she knows it, obnoxious on top of that.
* also, Admiral Cain (although I was appaled by what she had done). But still, I have her on my desktop holding the Razor.
* Riddick from Pitch Black and Cronicles of R. - tough, sleek and dangerous, like a tiger.
* T-Bag from Prison Break - and I also have to include Michael Scoffield, although he was only confident, without being obnoxious

If you can suggest more awesome, relevant characters, it would be great!

Many good movies have features that make them attractive to their audience.
There are those that are flawless in footage, not an inch of imperfection.
(e.g. Kramer vs Kramer)

There are those that build up towards a crescendo with an explosive climax (e.g. Do the right thing)

There are those that are based on historical facts, drawing the audience towards them in search of truth and distinction (e.g. Titanic, Gandhi, Apollo 13).

And then there's the cult movie.....the one that manipulates our senses and keeps bringing us back for more...over and over....we become addicted.

What are your favourite cult movies ?

By the way, their site is pretty obnoxious, bringing you to a flash load page first, with lots of annoying guitar music. Click "skip intro" in the lower right.

Hey everyone! in attempt to have more fun in my life, and become more of a fun to person to be around, for the past few months I've been doing research learning and figuring out just what this thing we call 'fun' is.
I'd like to get your input on what you think it is!

A few questions I personally have used to brainstorm the topic...
* What is fun?
* What does someone mean when they say "It was a lot fun!" or "I had so much fun!"
* What things/concepts contribute to 'having a good time'?
* What things/concepts discourage 'having the time of your life'?
* What do people do for fun? What is it about it that makes it fun?

Thanks guys! excited to hear what you have to share :)

Question for Gamers PC/Xbox 360

Question: Should I upgrade my vintage 2004 "game" PC with a $120 video card (HD 2600XT AGP)...

or...

Just buy the games I want for my Xbox 360?

I don't play many games (just Valve games...Half-Life and Left for Dead and the like).

Left 4 Dead 2 told me it my video hardware was below minimum levels...but still runs (barely!).

For this game above, I'm stuck...I already pre-bought it for the PC via steam...

...but for future games I am leaning towards just going the 360 route.

Unless I could buy a vid card REALLY cheap, I don't want to throw money at a dead platform (AGP is dead now).

Any thoughts?

THANKS!

Mwahaha.

Of course, as this will affect the whole world, World Affairs is the place for this thread. But, some confused mod seems to have moved it to Fun & Recreation. What can you do?

Firstly, I will call in my fleet of moon-sized spaceships that I have parked 'round the other side of Jupiter. Then I will demand tribute from the puny planet they call Earth. Of course, the world leaders will refuse. (the insolence  ). Then, I will rain free food down on all the peoples of the world. Then I will proceed to run for the world-leader position of every country on Earth. And of course, the people will elect me in every case. Thus will I dominate the Earth.

So there's mine. What's yours?

Forum Family Game!

DUN DUN DUNNNN!!! It's time for the Forum Family Game!

Surely we all know each other somehow, like a big family. In this game, it is your job, as a pre-teen, to explain how you're related to or know someone.

*I'll start!*

=============
Hi, I'm *Daffy*, and I'm 12 years old. I like to collect sports cards and play baseball. I also play stuff on the computer. I like math.

My oldest sister is *Angela*. I like her a lot. She always watches out for me and I tell her about stuff at school. She's not silly like other girls in her high school and we often play Uno and video games together on weeknights. She spends WAAAY too much time brushing her hair though!

*Marinik * is my twin sister. People say we're the same and different at the same time. I can beat her in arm wrestling but she beats me in thumb wrestling. We argue sometimes but we also share bunk beds. I put a roach in her pillow last night.

*Seeker5* is my friend. I've known him since 2nd grade. He lives down the street. He's always out with his parents and I can never find him when he's home. I think that's why he is called Seeker, because I'm always looking for him!! I know he likes to go hunting with his dad. He gave it up for about a year but now he's at it again.

*Brutha* is a foreign exchange student that came to live with us. He likes to eat Cheerios without sugar, so I think he is kinda weird. That's all I have to say about him.

*Cylon* is on my football team. He's the quarterback! We used to hang out but haven't got along ever since someone told him that I was the one who stole his baseball cards.

I know who really stole them... it was a kid named Marcus. Marcus was recently expelled from our school for bad behavior. Well duh he took all the baseball cards!!

*MidasGirl* and I see each other in school. Some of the older kids say we should kiss but that is so gross! I help her carry her books and she likes the hats I wear. I went to her birthday party and bought her a Hannah Montana DVD. I don't think she liked it...

*Acting Like Godot* is my religious history teacher. He knows a lot about a lot of stuff. He's supposed to teach us a little about every religion but so far this year he has spent most of his time talking about Buddhism. I like the glasses he wears and sometimes he doesn't tuck in his shirt.

*Steve Pavlina* is my weird neighbor down the street. He's always messing with his lawn and the only thing he ever wears is khaki shorts. I like his sandals though and sometimes he pays me to help plant flowers. He really likes daisies. He also buys a lot of art. He likes Painters.

*James81* is my best friend from math class. He knows way more about it than me! I admire him because he's already growing facial hair too. I wish I had facial hair like him. :(

I have to go now. Talk more later!

DUN DUN DUNNNN!!! It's time for the Forum Family Game!

Surely we all know each other somehow, like a big family. In this game, it is your job, as a pre-teen, to explain how you're related to or know someone.

I'll start!

=============
Hi, I'm Daffy, and I'm 12 years old. I like to collect sports cards and play baseball. I also play stuff on the computer. I like math.

My oldest sister is Angela. I like her a lot. She always watches out for me and I tell her about stuff at school. She's not silly like other girls in her high school and we often play Uno and video games together on weeknights. She spends WAAAY too much time brushing her hair though!

Marinik is my twin sister. People say we're the same and different at the same time. I can beat her in arm wrestling but she beats me in thumb wrestling. We argue sometimes but we also share bunk beds. I put a roach in her pillow last night.

Seeker5 is my friend. I've known him since 2nd grade. He lives down the street. He's always out with his parents and I can never find him when he's home. I think that's why he is called Seeker, because I'm always looking for him!! I know he likes to go hunting with his dad. He gave it up for about a year but now he's at it again.

Brutha is a foreign exchange student that came to live with us. He likes to eat Cheerios without sugar, so I think he is kinda weird. That's all I have to say about him.
