| What about when your loved one is "way out there", Erin? You remember how you said that when a person has been long dead, they've moved on and you're less likely to be able to access them in your readings -- do you think that the tendrils of love smoke their way into the farthest reaches of the next step? Sometimes I get the feeling that though my mom has been gone for seven years, she is making a point of keeping her feet wet here in my world, for my sake. She feels more accessible to me than, say, my dad, who died ten years ago. I think his Angelaworld feet are pretty dry. Do you think that there's an afterlife choice to keep closer tabs on a particular loved one? |

| Thanks for this Erin. My father died suddenly in January, and your descriptions of how we connect with those who have passed into the spirit realm seem more accurate, (and more helpful) than most of what I've seen, read, been told in these last months. Most of the time he doesn't feel any further away now than he did when he lived in another part of the country-- in someways, maybe he isn't. Anyway, there is so much unhelpful information/advice out in the world about dealing with the loss of loved ones--it's nice to see an alternate approach.

| Angela, yes you are right, spirits are sometimes more fully crossed over than others who hover. These spirits have cut ties with the people they left behind on earth. My understanding is that they can check in with us whenever they want but don't often feel the need, any more than you feel the need to check in with the kid who sat behind you in second grade. There are certain of my own relatives that come through to me on a regular basis and some I've never heard from at all. I think for the most part it is their choice, not mine. It doesn't hurt to send the tendril of love out to these people. Lizthefair: thanks for your feedback. That means a lot to me.

| Hi Erin, Your 'Offerings to the Dead' blog reminded me of an experience my Dad had a few years ago. He'd had a deep tissue massage with an Asian man and joined his classes for awhile. They did a series of exercises similar to Tai Chi that were combined with meditation. He said he had to stand for half an hour with his arms up above his head for in the first class. The exercises were meant to clear blocks in the energy field and release any ancestral debris. During the course of the program he had very clear visions of his grandfather's life (of which he knew very little). He later went back to England and discovered the visions he had were actual events. The week before the final session he was asked to write down what food his ancestors ate. He turned up on the last day to find they had physically laid the food out on a table. He said he was standing to one side feeling bemused by the activity when his tutor stepped up alongside him and said, "That large white haired lady is loving the cream sponge cake.' Dad nearly fell over. His mother had loved cream sponge cakes. She'd died at 84 of obesity and had a huge shock of wild white hair. While it's not something I can imagine myself doing, if it works then why not? Lallymac |

| Hei Erin I remember when I was just beginning to relax my beliefs on the deceased and the afterworld, and that they might still exist. I was lying down in my room, when suddenly I felt as if the pillow I was using was my dead grandmother's lap. I used to rest my head there while she stroked my hair when I was young, and then somehow I saw in my mind me and her back at her house, on the couch, me resting on her lap. It felt as if the whole image was superimposed over what I'm seeing thru my eyes in the present moment and a little unreal. I think we where talking about something but I can't remember what it was. Thinking that this was more than that, I asked: Is that you, grandma? Suddenly, the fluorescent light flickered, and the smell of her perfume suddenly filled the air. And I rushed out of the room in shock. Hahaha. I hope I won't run away like a bitch the next time that happens.

| Hi Erin, thanks for this beautiful article. Would you say the same receiving of love is true for our Angels and Spirit guides? As I am lighting some incense every morning for them and I hope they receive my love and gratefulness? thank you! |

| Oh definitely Kaja. I periodically send my guides flowers along with my thanks for helping me with readings during the day. They always brighten at the gesture.

| As I type, "I think I'll do that", in regards to giving gifts of love to my guides, I can feel them becoming excited. ~ David
