idailydiary has a free passworded version. Of course you can pay more for more features. It doesn't have tags, but it's decent for the price you pay. Windows only.

I am an avid journal writer. I'm of the old-school kind tho... I have piles of spirals in my closet. There's something about a clean sheet of lined paper and the "perfect" pen. When I find one (sometimes it's from the bank, or one I found at work or just on the floor somewhere) it becomes my journal pen until it's gone. It's almost like a release for me... as if I can feel my energy pouring out onto the paper. I journal in times of change and energy shift; when I need to resolve something that I would prefer not to talk with someone else about but need to vent.

I have recently channeled my writing addiction onto the computer in the form of blogging, so I have used a pen and paper in a while. It's an adjustment because I don't quite feel the same connection but I am getting used to it. I obviously don't write the same things I would typically write in my journal about, but I have only so much energy to expend on writing so for now my blog will have to suffice.

You could just use a blog and adjust the settings such that no one can get in, unless they have a password. In other words, you could keep it completely private.

And it would still have all the usual blogging features, eg your posts can be categorised, arranged chronologically, you could have a search engine to search for key words etc etc.
