Hello Erin,

What would you say to someone who doesn't accept a person who has died enjoys a continuance of what we might term their 'consciousness', nor for that matter their 'spirit', as generally understood?

I would say, "That's alright." You don't have to believe in the continued existence of the soul if you don't want to.

Oh but I do believe in a continued existence with regards the most essential aspect of the 'soul', yet it seems I most likely define 'soul' quite differently to almost everyone. Indeed the concept of the 'soul' comes into our imagination genetically from the Hebrew scriptures of over 3500 years ago, so I defer to such original source for my definition, rather than the plethora of curious imaginings ever since.

Indeed the indwelling polarity of our consciousness (and much more). ie. Intelligence, which is merely a connection to a far greater - transcendent, universal, eternal INTELLIGENCE, surely continues indefinitely, as not in the first instance being at all confined within.

However the opposing polarity of our consciousness in which the 'me' resides - emotions is entirely confined, bound up within our physicality, and as such returns to the earth (actually ceases to exist) with our (then 'lifeless') physicality.
