Not meaning to be an annoying downer here, but as an honest question: What if you don't love yourself? I know that we "should" love ourselves and be kind and sympathetic and all that, but what if you just can't muster up that genuine emotion?

You mean you've scanned every part of yourself and can't find anything inside you that's worthy of love or is lovable?

No, not so extreme as that. Where other people are concerned, I feel that every human being is worthy of love deep down, but that doesn't mean I can muster up an active loving feeling for someone else who annoys me greatly or who behaves in an evil or sadistic manner.

I don't consider myself evil or sadistic, but looking inward, the annoyance or exasperation at certain parts of myself seems "too loud" and sort of drowns everything else out.

I like how you posed your question. It really made me think.

Yes I phrased it that way on purpose.

You can show yourself some love even if you don't feel lovable. You might find your opinion of yourself changes quite a bit.

in the meantime, work on the areas you don't like about yoruself and make a committment to changing them.

I loved the "Plant a Tree in Your Soul" advice. For whatever reason, this made me smile and feel really good

Yeah people are digging on that one. honestly, sometimes I get that stuff straight from my guides. I sometimes think they should just write my articles for me. They wrote "Spirit Guides at Starbucks" for me in 20 mins. i just had to sit there and type what they told me to say.

Just wanted to say that this article was exactly what I needed to read today! I've been feeling physically and emotionally exhausted, and was bummed because people seemed to be sensing this in me.

Now I'm going to work on ways to recharge my batteries, using some of the ideas you've given me. Probably journaling. Thanks!

Omg this thread just saved a friendship! For the past few days I have been spewing poison and negativity towards myself and my friend because he did something that I didn't agree with. It doesn't mean it was wrong, but it meant that I wasn't able to accept and support him in his decision. My anger and jealousy caused my friend heartache, distress and guilt. I also angered myself to sickness: couldn't eat, couldn't sleep properly, and ended up throwing up last night.

The tips that helped me most were the 'forgive and don't hold grudges' and 'guard your own energy'. Negativity is unnecessary, tiring and destructive...it's much better to forgive and to love instead of being consumed with anger any day. I felt my own bad karma, and boy it wasn't good!

Many thanks.
