Default Still a long way

I'm someone who was until recently an atheist and have just accepted the belief of "something more". Which means i just recently started believing in IM and the Universal Mind because i realized it would help me in my performance in life.

But i see people believing in spirit guides and angels and all this stuff and i wonder in which ways believing in it can increase ones performance in life? I feel like i would be going back to my previous beliefs.

Explaining it a bit more. My parents are very christians and i was too. But ended up becoming an atheist under my parents critics but realized they are just closed-minded.

Being an atheist is a very good way to live life because your mind is then open to any point of view. And IM point of view makes life better so i decided to accept it. But if i start believing angels and spirits i feel i will be going back to the mentality of my parents.

So i just want to know, assuming its all a point of view, how can believing spirits and this stuff help me on my life? By the way i already feel stretched believing in a Universal Mind so spirits and angels are definitely not in my plans right now.

I am not at all religious yet I totally believe in angels, spirit guides, higher selves and even Source. I didn't grow up religious either so never rebelled or anything.

Steve, on the other hand, grew up totally Catholic, rejected Catholicism when he was 17, became an atheist, and then eventually he got to the point where he too believes in spirits, angels, etc.

Steve would suggest you try both ways of living (believing in them and not believing in them) and see which way serves you better.

Believing in angels and spirits does not make you Christian.

Have you listened to the podcast 'Beyond Religion'? Basically it talks about how people identify with their religious beliefs (e.g, "I AM a Christian" or in your case, "I AM an atheist"), and it limits them. I recently realized that there is no such thing as a Christian or an atheist. Christians and atheists are identical, they just hold different opinions.

You say that atheism allows you to be open to every point of view? That's not what I've experienced with atheists. You must be unique.

Ering: I know it wont turn me a Christian, but will turn me into a very spiritual person, which as an atheist i would have considered to have the same mindset of a christian, because it believes something without evidences of its existence. But since i wasnt an atheist anymore i realized both are different.

Thanks for the advice, i guess the only way its me experimenting it and seeing the results.

The David: Was i still a christian, the very first time i would see this website and its content i would have tought it was an attempt of the devil to deceive me and would have closed the webpage immediatly. As an atheist im much more tolerant and open to other ideas. So yes, being an atheist has made me be more open to other ideas, if this wasnt the case for you, then i might be unique, but you might also be o.o

Hi Sam,

I am in the same boat as you. I just don't believe in all that sort of stuff, beyond the obvious (i.e. meditate on something, like being happy, and you can change your thought patterns into more happy ones).

But, like you, I see the benefits of believing in things. For example, and alcoholic might be better able to recover if he put his faith in a higher power. Or, Personally, things like IM, intuition, purpose in life, etc., might help me lead the life I would like to lead.

Of course, the problem being that if you don't believe, you just don't believe. You can't just decide "hey I want to believe in all this stuff that I truly think is nonsense." So, I don't really think a 30 day trial would work.

I would start your search for "something more" in beliefs that make the most sense for you. For example, Buddhism (although I do not consider myself Buddhist) makes a decent amount of sense to me, because for the most part it can exist without supernatural/higher power, etc. And it tells you to think for yourself. I am not saying that YOU should start with Buddhism, but that maybe if you search enough you can find something that makes sense to you.

I know I haven't. But then again, it's pretty much at the bottom of my to do list.

Good luck! And keep us updated!

Yes, then I would say experiment and be open to the presence of angels and spirits. I actually thought angels were just Christian myths until I explored for myself and found out (in my opinion) that they do indeed exist. People can attach religious significance to a lot of spiritual things. I never have.

Spoon bending is not one of my abilities.

Unless I'm digging around a really icy tub of vegan ice cream. Then I can bend a spoon like nobody's business!
