Empowering Beliefs About God...

Erin, I know you dont necessarily believe in a traditional Christian God, but I wonder, is their any benefit into having powerful beliefs about a Chistian God, such as saying, "I believe God gave me Peace, Love, and Joy to share with the world, vs saying, "I must serve, obey and Fear God, least I go to hell....

The first way is better than the second of course. Love is better than fear.

I agree with Erin, the thoughts about love, peace, and joy are much more empowering. I grew up in a Catholic family, but as I got older I grew to discover that my God does not go by strict Catholic rules. I allow God to take whatever form is helpful to me at the time. Sometimes God is the source energy of all creation, sometimes he is a pleasant old man with a white beard that I can have a one-on-one conversation with. Because I believe that God is simply divine intelligence, he can therefore take whatever form I want at the time....I may be rambling a little but I believe you get what you ask for. If you start to see God as something to fear and obey, then that's what you will get. If you see God as the love and peace that flows through all things, you will get that.
