I really enjoyed it. Do you ever ask your guides about this kind of stuff for clarification? Or do they want you to draw your own conclusions? I hadn't realized you were having experiences like that in the early ninties... when did you first start raising your vibration consciously like that?

Dan, at the time I didn't think to ask my guides. I wasn't as aware of them as I am now. I basically just feel like I accidentally snuck back into the ether, got caught, and got sent back. It was a trip to be sure! Regarding consciously raising my vibration... first I learned lucid dreaming, but no major shift in vibration there. It wasn't until I began with the astral projection that I learned how to raise my vibration. A friend taught me how to do it because every time I went astral I saw tons of negative entities that scared the heck out of me. He taught me how to move out of phase with them so that I could leave them behind. I was 15. |

I've been doing AP for years, starting shortly after Erin and I met in '94 -- she was definitely the catalyst. I'm nowhere near as good though or as frequent with it. Usually I get freaked out and scream like a little girl for help.

Now that sounded like a pretty interesting trip, to say the least. Astral Projection, now that's something that I haven't experienced and haven't really applied myself to of yet. Lucid dreaming is my current project concerning travels of the mind. Concerning AP though, is it mainly traveling from one place to another by flight, or can one also see themselves at a particular location and teleport?, much like how a dream usually operates. |

It's fascinating that you saw the young man come out of the fireplace. It's not something you would expect, is it? (Unless you're a Harry Potter fan.) But in the Celtic/Druid tradition, it's not so strange. The fireplace is seen as the living heart ("hearth") of the home, and the spirit of the family lives there. Not only that, it's a place where you communicate with the dead -- it's sort of an altar to your ancestors. This is where you would put pictures of your dead relatives, and where you would put offerings to them -- especially around this time of year, Samhain (which became Halloween). In the Celtic tradition, it's extremely common to see spirits of the dead around a fireplace -- especially, of course, the dead associated with that hearth. Did you ever find out if that young man with the backpack was associated with that house? |

What a cool experience, Erin! For the past year or so I have been experimenting with out of body experiences. My first real experience was last year, but I was having trouble separating my nonphysical body from my physical body. Right before it happened, my whole body vibrating and I felt paralyzed. I also heard loud banging noises as well as music and people talking and breathing, at the back of my head. I noticed that my nonphysical body was slowly sliding back and forth on the bed, and I felt like I couldn't control my movements. I was so scared at the time, so I woke up instantly. I've had a few other experiences like this, but I think fear is what is holding me back from experiencing more. And the funny thing is, I know that there is truly nothing to be afraid of! Do you have these feelings of vibration or feeling paralyzed when you're about to have an out of body experience? How do you get past the fear?

Dana, yes, what happens to me is that I wake up from a dream and I hear a sound that is high pitched and sounds like acceleration, my body tingles and vibrates as though an electric current is running through it. Then it's like I pop out of my body; I can feel the separation, but my astral body is still inside my physical body. So then I have to stretch my astral body out (which took some practice). Once I'm completely separated I just start flying or gliding. But yeah, the physical body will be paralyzed during this separation. Jeff, interesting about the hearth! I had been wondering why he came out through the fireplace. When I saw him, though, he seemed to be moving quickly. Like I sensed he was just passing through the fireplace and didn't originate there. But I don't know for sure. |

This is much like some of the material from the book, "Life in the World Unseen", a book channeled to Anthony Borgia from Monsignor Robert Benson (who wrote a book while on the physical plane titled "The Necromancers". I highly recommend this book, if you want to know more about what Erin has described in her experience. I also had a teacher who described similar encounters in his astral states. If he was entering somewhere new or at a higher vibratory level, he would simply state he was with Jesus and be allowed to pass. Very interesting stuff! |

*tries to imagine Steve screaming like a little girl* Nah...aint happening! Weird Experience Erin! Although I love your analogy to the bit from Finding Nemo! Could it have been some sort of transition point i.e. from this life to the next? |

This guy adamantly claims Jesus as his guru and has met him. I honestly believe him because he's not some crazed, religious fanatic trying to convert people...he just does alot of yoga, meditation, and has described quite a few experiences to me that are utterly insane...but he had no ulterior motive to tell me these things other than just being my yoga/meditation teacher and a guest for dinner. He isn't a professional in the sense of teacher/guru either...he works at a grocery store (has for 29 years) and lives a very simple life. He is extremely psychic, too.

How do you consciously raise your vibration? Do you think about positive thoughts? Do you say a certain prayer? It would be interesting to know.

I'm not sure of the physical mechanics involved, but I know it involves willing and manifesting. But basically I tune in to the energy in my body (this is easier when you have experience feeling that energy) and sort of breathe in extra light and energy from Source. As though you were in a room with stale air and suddenly someone opened a window and a fresh breeze came rushing in. How you might feel expelling the old stale air and breathing in fresh, invigorating air, is somewhat how it feels. There is often, but not always, an accompanying tingling sensation like electricity in my body.

Erin Pavlina’s Blog » Blog Archive » How To Raise Your Vibration Quote:
This brings up something I've been thinking about lately. I was raised thinking that using "God's name in vain" was the same as swearing, like using the words "God damn it." Recently, with the Bush administration, the phrase took on a new meaning for me. I now think of it as being when a person uses the name of God deceitfully, to further their own malicious or selfish intentions. Like, "God wants us to go to war."

That blog entry that Dan referenced on how to raise your vibration applies to while you're awake and living your physical life. What I just mentioned above is what I do when I'm astral. Just an fyi.

Good one. Yeah, I think I'm going to fit in here just fine. Amit -- agree completely. I can't see Steve doing that either. Erin -- fascinating post. Any stories about things like your viewing pools or the Akashic Records gets my instant galvanized attention.

Erin, Some questions for clarification of out of body experiences, and travels to the ether-- 1- When you encounter spirits in the ether, how do you sense them-- is it always by sight? Do the spirits LOOK like people, and when you encounter people who were previously in your life, do they look the same as they did when they were on earth? In body, physical form, clothing, mannerisms, etc? (and if the spirits undergo multiple reincarnations, that physical form would change. so how would they be identified?) 2- Also, how would you know whether you could make contact with your deceased friend when you were in the ether-- what if she already reincarnated back to earth? (same goes with when you're channeling spirits for readings-- if someone asks you to make contact with a deceased relative, would you be trying to channel their spirit in the ether? what are the probabilities that they are available for contact, and wouldn't you encounter cases where the spirit might not be available for contact in the ether, because they have already reincarnated back to earth?) 3- In the travel that you just wrote about, why did the young man have a backpack? If he had carried it around with him in life on earth, why would his spirit still need to carry it when he's in the ether? thanks for your insight! |

Great questions, Athena! 1. When I encounter spirits in the ether it is usually by sight, but I've also encountered them only by feel and sometimes only by sound. Haven't smelled one yet. 2. I didn't know if I could find her in the ether, but I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass me by. During a reading I try to connect with the deceased relative of their choice, but those spirits aren't always available to me. It's like I'm ringing their phone but they may not answer. Usually, though, I connect with people who are recently deceased and still have some unfinished business with the living or when that deceased person is still hanging around to try to help ease the sorrow of their passing. 3. Why did he have a backpack... I'm not certain. He was dressed in hiking clothes. If I had to guess, I'd say he died while hiking and on his way to the afterlife he still appeared the way he did when he died. But I honestly don't know for sure. |

thanks for the insights Erin! I'm wondering especially about appearances, because, as an artist, I would like to think that our bodies are only of this earth, and that we take an entirely different form when we're in spirit, becoming more beautiful, more.. well.. ethereal. There are so many trappings that are of this earth, eg clothing, hair colorings, weight, health, etc.. that it would be nice if when we're in spirit form, all of that stuff dissolves, and we transcend all the physical trappings and become pure beautiful spirits. That's interesting too about the higher self that stays in the ether.. I always wondered what and where my higher self was. |

I think I had a single episode where I was sleeping, well I thought I was sleeping anyways.. I opened my eyes and I saw myself laying in bed in my bedroom. I couldn't move my body at all, but I could see everything, plus I was hearing people talk in the distance.. Some weird language I didn't understand. I was scared shitless at this point and forced myself to wake up (by constantly trying to open my eyes wider). It never happened ever since. If only I knew what it was back then.. So how does one learn to astral project at will? I am very interested in this subject now. |

I have just recently heard of astral projection/out-of-body experiences. It really caught my attention b/c a guy on a radio show was talking about your body being paralyzed, not being able to get back into it, and these like mean people chasing you. I thought, OhMyGod, I have had this exact dream...or that's what I thought it was at the time, anyway. I remember finally getting my body to move and being scared to death and thinking, My God, that seemed so unbelievably real! Since I have been reading about it, it seems that a lot of people experience these "negative entities", as you called them. I am dying to try this astral projection, but I am scared to death of the "negative entities." What are these people? Has anyone ever been hurt by them that you know of? How can I dodge them? Also, the guy I heard on the radio had experienced the upper planes, or upper heaven, as he called it. He also believed in Jesus and claimed to know Jesus exists. He didn't believe in God, by the way, before he started doing these astral projections. Thanks, Debbie

Thanks for sharing Erin. I don't think I've ever astrally projected myself in my sleep. My experiences tend to happen while wide awake, often in mid conversation. I've explained it as 'going through the gaps in reality' because I get the sense of time slowing down and my focus becomes fixed in one place, then I slip through into an entirely different setting (most often places that are not in this dimension). When I'm doing readings though, 'they' come to me in the sense that I'm fully aware of the room and other people but guides or deceased people appear in the room with us. I'm aware of the different levels they come from by the energy surrounding them and how physical they are. For 3-4 yrs I've had a couple of teenagers who died in a car accident near where I live 'come through.' They were a popular couple and friends with my oldest daughter so quite a few of their friends and relatives have been to see me. These two have always come through very differently and never together. He was a 'hot' (according to all the broken hearted girls he left behind) boy racer who lived life on a razor edge, tempting death at every turn, like he was invincible. She was a very intelligent wise old soul type with a big personality to match her physique. Her parents were very wealthy and Dad had bought her a flash fast car for her 17th b'day. She was driving when they crashed but he was egging her on all the way. Both had a pot pouri of alcohol and drugs in their systems when they hit a lampost travelling at 180 kmph on the corner of suburban street. When I first met them after they'd died, he was in total shock. It took him months to come to terms with his death and the impact it had on his family. I spent many hours counselling him after readings, on my front porch. He always appeared very physical. Conversation with him related to his family and immediate events as if he was unable to percieve more than this reality. She came through the first time as energy and took 4-5 mins to recreate her physical presense. Her messages where more futuristic in relation to her family and fathers business, usually simple and to the point and she'd shift back to energy again. It was only when her sister came to me that she gave some small glimpses of childhood memories and words of comfort. I was exploring numerology at this time and hers were old soul/spiritual master numbers while his were physical/emotional. I tend to 'know' things in the spiritual realms, without having been taught but my rational mind (the doubting Thomas) is always seeking explanations. I also have trust issues. Trusting myself that I do know (typical of a 9 dayborn). From a physical perspective looking at these two teenagers, I'd have thought that he would have been the one seeking a return to spirit. He seemed less attatched the physical world, more free spirited and she was very earthy, aware and solid. So it was a bit of a suprise to find the opposite. Lallymac |

I'm always genuinely interested in Astral projection but I have been hesistant to do it because of the potential danger as told by my old dad . My question is what are the dos and dont's b4 doing an astral projection ? I'm not doing AP now for my family but i know that i 'm going to try it some day in the future to fill the hole of my curiosity. |
