Great reminder in this post!

Love this quote,

"to keep the gears turning and the spice flowing."

although what is so bad, I ask you, about all eyes turning to Arrakis?

Thank you for getting that reference. Between that and the Belgariad I might just have to marry you.

@erin in contradiction to my pretentious, hipsterish avatar, I have read lots of science fiction and fantasy books

@supertom it's definitely one of the great SF classics (caveat: I'm really only familiar with the original book, not the full series)

That was a really good analogy for those people who give, give, give, and never get anything in return. It's kind of a form of lightworker syndrome. These selfless people need to start caring somewhat about themselves or it will cripple their ability to give. Great post.

Good post. I never had this problem. In fact, I used to have the opposite problem, which was I used to save my energy so much that I used to be silent most of the time. Over the years, I learned how to open up.

Default Yipppeee BLOG POST!!!

Congrats Erin...for some reason this baby of a blog post had a difficult ride out on to the page (if I take your meaning on facebook correctly).

Great post...I might add...don't beat yourself up when you are tired and just need to veg for a while...like by drinking beer and watching TV

I got the Dune reference as well...love the love series. I started at the end (Chapter House), then saw the movie, and finally read all the (original) books in order....EPIC!!

CHEERS!

Somewhere along the way you were taught that to give is divine and to receive is selfish. This is false though. To give is indeed divine, but to allow others to give back to you is divine also.
hmmm...

Acts 20:35b

On a deep level, Jesus actually confirms your words.

Herbert, Eddings, Weis & Hickman, Hohlbein (German author)...ah, those were the days of devouring everything fantasy and sci-fi the school library had to offer.

About Eddings, though, I felt the Belgariad/Tamuli in the end was a bit too similar to his Elenium cycle in overall storyline (although, of course, the setting and characters are invariably individual) - and if you haven't read the Elenium yet, you definitely should!
