Default what happens to your higher self when you die

i was just wondering what happens to you higher self when you die? does it merge with the soul and then the journey continues in oneness and then with every incarnation a part is left up there as a higher self? or
does it merge with the soul as soon as the physical body is no longer available.?
Is the higher self present to welcome one when he/she crosses over?
thanks for your answers

I believe the higher self and our recently deceased self come into convergence after we've gone through our life review and dropped our earthly identity.

Those who are in limbo are not merged with their higher self (more's the pity).

From my perspective, we have many "higher" selves. Each one is just one more more cognizant self, that has not yet expanded into All That Is. It's basically YOU in the future. The main "over soul" higher self is like the result of all the wisdom you WILL accumulate or learn over the course of your incarnations. Before joining with All That Is, it turns back and offers its wisdom to its past self, as a guiding resource.

When you incarnate in a human body, you don't bring in all your soul energy (the strength of it would blow your physical brain circuitry), you divide and leave some in the spirit world. And it goes about its business there, as you go about your business here.

When you die, you merge with the portion you left in the spirit world. You could consider it to be a "higher self" but it is actually at the same level of development as you are.

The portion of our consciousness that I call the higher self is like the deified version of your personality. It has attained a perfect balance of love and wisdom. It is like your main spiritual guide, and it simply helps you to achieve its beingness. You don't exactly merge with this part till you become it in the future. Although, temporary joinings do occur to give the soul more perspective as it grows.

Want everyone in limbo eventually go through another process of birth and death, or are they capable of ever crossing over, wait I think I remember the answer to that from the getting out of hell blog you wrote, which I guess is the same thing...

I don't think you can reincarnate until you've sloughed off the old identity, processed it, merged with your higher self again, and made plans to pick parents and life circumstances.

Good question.

One that the Great Thinkers of the Ages have pondered over for centuries.

I doubt anyone REALLY knows the answer and I suspect it's one of lifes mysteries that can only be solved once when we 'graduate' from this life.

How long do you think that process requires? Do you believe that the time varies with different people?

The time does vary, though in the grand scheme of things there is no time. I unfortunately don't do well explaining things of this nature.

so we pick our own life circumstances?

following on from that, i i read your article we choose our own death, i can't find it now but is that really a fact?

is it really true that i picked my life circumstances, did i make plans to split with my girlfriend before christmas, my mam just passed away, did she choose that, was that planned?
does the pain i feel not matter as long as my soul gets the experiences, what benifit is that to me?

You don't pick your life events, you pick your parents and birth circumstancs. After that anything can happen. Free will trumps planning.

However, before you incarnate you do choose what kind of experiences you'd LIKE to have, not ones you WILL have, but opportunities to learn say compassion, patience, forgiveness, love, etc. So if you look at the tragedies in your life, what are they all trying to teach you? Life will continue to give you these same circumstances so you'll have opportunities to learn.

No, not really. Not in any sort of detailed way. But your life is steered and nudged in directions that will allow you the opportunity to experience certain things.

its all well and good looking at tragedies and seeing what they are trying to teach but its the soul that benifits, what good is that to me? its me here now, not my soul.

there is lots of info on your site and i'm having a info overload but the sense i'm getting is life on earth is all false, its all one big fraud so so a soul gets a leg up in the spirit world

I've just crossed over from not believing in reincarnation to accepting it. I held a firm Christian (one body/one death) attitude ever since I came to this forum. However; although I believe spirits do reincarnate, I'm still not convinced that it's the spirit's option to reincarnate.

BTW, I feel I haven't "compromised" my Christian beliefs. There is evidence in the new testament of reincarnation.

Erin, I'm curious, have you ever had hints or believed that there is actually just one self, one Consiousness, Source - and separation is just an illusion, a wonderful play? Like in Zen Buddhism or Advaita Vedanta, or like in that model of Subjective Reality that was being discussed some time ago on this forum?
Instead of this complicated scheme with higher selves, guides and spiritual beings, it would make much more sense if there was just Source and life was just an illusion that it amuses itself with.

Yes of course there is only one, we are only One and we are everyone. I like to think of it like this: we are fingers on the hand of God. We all look separate but are part of the whole hand. From the perspective we're working in, though, there are guides, higher selves, angels, etc. In the end... the VERY end, we are just an energetic consciousness.
