I haven't initiated an OBE in over a year, and recently have been having a lot of difficulty and no success. I think perhaps it was my major vibrational change. When I was depressed, it was easier to blank all thought out and just surrender to the vibrations. Not that I want to go back to that state, but I figured I need to find a new way to drive in this new gear. Personally, I just haven't explored the astral to my satisfaction yet. So, thank you for this entry! It really helped clear up what I've been wondering lately, if this is like riding a bike (you never forget) playing the guitar (you just get rusty) or balletic grace (use it or lose it.)

I think I once started to go astral, but I'm not sure. To me, it felt like my consciousness was all I had - no body, but I couldn't see anything either. It scared me to death at the time, because I didn't now about astral travel, and just considered it to be a sort of OBE. I imagined it was what it feels like to die.

It happened very randomly to me only once, but I sure would like to know how to try it again. Can anyone recommend a good resource online like a podcast or course to learn how to do this? When I search online I seem to get back a bunch of poorly designed web sites...

I don't think that was an OBE, Jayh, but perhaps it was an advanced jhana:

Buddhist traditions analyze the results of meditation into eight stages of increasingly subtle states of consciousness called the "absorptions" or "trance" states of higher consciousness (in Pali, jhana; in Sanskrit, dhyana). The second set of four even subtler states of mind are called the "formless" jhanas because they are based on contemplation of formless subjects: the infinity of space, the infinity of consciousness, nothingness, and "neither perception nor nonperception." The last of these is where subject and object are nearly indistinguishable and all pairs of opposites are totally transcended.
