In my opinion, this is quite similar to the "Monster under the Bed" situation.

Although this concerns a very real "monster", it is again mental state that makes a lot of difference. For those of us who are less far on their way than Erin, symbolism may help focus our intent.

Say, you put up a "guardian" figurine in your bedroom. A friend of mine put a piece of black silk on her appartment door to ward against negative things (she says nobody has rung her bell to sell her things she didn't want ever since).

What you do is "charge" this item with your intention in the way that you simply imagine this item protecting you (and those you love), that they kind of erect a "protective barrier" or light aura around the room, or even the whole house. We often read in fantasy books about magic items, and paganism knows ritual items as well. But it isn't the items themselves that are "special", it is the intent that we connect with these items. And even while we sleep, part of our higher self will maintain this intent. We don't actually NEED these items (same as Erin says tarot cards are unnecessary), but they give us a physical item to focus on. That is all this is about: focus. Clarity of intent. And it helps us alleviate that fear of "when I sleep, who's going to keep up the protection", because we have our "guardian totems".

It is a trick, something to help us concentrate and make clear what we want to accomplish.

Later on, with more practice and ease, these "crutches" can and should again be abandoned when they become unnecessary.

Especially in the beginning it may be important to repeat this "charging", to repeat formulating the intent, in order to not have it dim and grow fuzzy in our own mind. Use your own judgement in this. If you feel safe enough, that mirrors in your mental state (your vibration frequency).

I must admit I think I am hardly even a dabbler as far as pychic development goes, but I feel this to be true because it "resonates" within me.

Eddy is exactly right. Putting charms and enchantments on items is a matter of infusing the item with your will/intent. The item will take on the energy you give it. So you can use items like crystals, candles, cloth, figurines, etc to act as wards of protection.

Hi, I'm new here but had to register and reply to this one. My dead relatives visit me often and they are new at it, and so am I. They are testing out different ways to get through to me, and each has his own style of doing so. I have a mischievous great grandfather who likes to tease my cats and open drawers, and a dad who just calmly gives me ideas. But recently one night I woke up and froze, like a small animal freezes when a predator sees it, as a defense mechanism. I knew someone was at the end of my bed and I was petrified. Then I fell asleep again. The next day I asked my dad who it was, and it turned out to be his brother. I was scared because a ghost never came to me like this before- they always let me sleep and some dont even like to bother me at work! But this ghost was new to the business of visiting the living, and my dad described it to me as "he was just getting his sea-legs". So, maybe ghosts who show up and startle you are just testing out the best way to get through, and maybe if they see your scared, will try a different method next time.

So its like your Dad, Uncle and Great Grampa are deceased and visit you. Did you ever ask them if they are astral still...? Coz normally, if a deceased soul is in the Spirit plane and visits you from there, its when you need them, or they need to talk out something specific to you. I have read if they are in the Spirit plane they don't bother themselves with Earthly matters unless its important (like their loved ones are grieving for them, or something similarly important). But frequent visits from them to you for mischieves and giving ideas made me intrigued. You think they are in the astral or so...?

Yes could be, but the question is why would they want to get through...There has to be some relevance beyond just trying to be in touch or catching up. What do you think?

There are more than just my dad and great grandpa and uncle, there is also my maternal grandma and total strangers. But, my dad and great grandpa are the regulars. I dont think theyre in the astral plane because they are very at ease, happy, relaxed. The astral plane seems too chaotic compared to the place they described to me. They wouldnt know the terminology anyway if I asked them. My uncle at the end of the bed was in a different "dimension" for a long time after he died. He was a bit of a wicked person in his last years, and spent a long time in some kind of karmic quagmire. But recently was somehow released, after he dwelled on his misdeeds on earth long enough, I presume. The idea my dad gave me was that he was in a prison and just got out and has alot of catching up to do.

My psychic abilities blew up and went full speed ahead after my dad died in April, I kept wondering why I wasnt grieving and it was because he was "here" the whole time. Then the rest of the dead family members started coming though. And strangers. Anyway, to answer your question finally, my dad, my great grandpa and I are in close communication now because we are working on a sort of project. When its finished, they said they'll give the other family members a chance to hang out with me.

OK well this is what i've got to say about "all of this" 1 i'm a ex Magician and i did a lot of reading....it's all in your head Ghost are not real "Spirit & Ghost" are words made by Humans as is everything ells in this world!

I grew up in a Christian home all my life i've been very into Religion But as OF the Bible and all Religions they & the "Bible" made by man...some say it's a hope Basically that is what it is! Truth is No one knows Look you Think and say you "See" or "hear" Ghost & Spirits well then idk maybe you do!

But Look and just think If say Religion such as Christian is "real" and God is going to come then If so when you die if you were living for God your "Spirit" would leave your Body and Withdraw to Heaven! If not living for God then you would Go to "hell" and Burn for a Eternity! So meaning "Spirits" & "Ghosts" Would not Exist on this World Simple fact! OK so say The Bible is just a Incorrect "Hope" and the Words we have Created such as Spirit,Demon Or Ghost Are for some reason The images we have made of them are "real" Do you realize how Stupid and Idiotic that sounds something we have Created in our own imagination is as we see it.....Well that's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥....The Fact is that people Suffer From all kinds of Illnesses some people are Completely "CRAZY" i'm not saying that The Images & Word we have created are not as we would see them if they "did" Exist i'm really saying people who claim to See Demons Spirits and Ghost are Crazy They are ****ed up they have Problems! Hey, I guess you should check out the bottom area of the message window when trying to send across, its probably got a setting that you can only send messages to your contacts, which i am not

I can't quantify the time of the state of being aware tbh. I have been emphatical and compassionate since I can remember things about myself Recently, I've started ti dig in by reading more. I guess I take it as it comes, no rush.
