Coincidences

Do coincidences actually exist or is it the cause of some higher power causing us to experience this?
I have a couple examples relating to Erins blog. One day, my friend mentioned something about deja vu, and I had started seriously thinking about what could cause this feeling we get. I was thinking back to different instances in my life where I distinctly remember feeling deja vu, and etc etc. It wasn't just a meaningless thought, in other words.
Then later that VERY SAME DAY I happened to check Erin's blog to see if she updated, which is something I don't do every single day but rather once every couple of weeks or so..
lo and behold Erin's blog topic for that day was *gasp* her take on Deja vu! So I don't know if that's just a coincidence or if theres some kind of.. psychic tie there, I have no idea.

Another instance happened a few days ago I was thinking about my major in college and that I was considering changing it to something having to do with social psychology when I reached university. I told a few people about this idea as well, and a few days later (today) I checked Erins blog and again it mentioned something about her taking social-psychology courses back when she was in college. I don't remember ever hearing about or reading about this idea to make me choose to go towards this social-psychology direction. It just kind of popped in my head one day out of the blue..

Erin, are you my soulmate? lol.. ok.. jokes Anyone can offer any kind of insight to this? I just thought it was a weird coincidence the first time, and the second time, it seemed like it was supposed to get my attention.
