Is this my higher self?

I have been manifesting things for a long time now and the way it works with me is that when I want something, I ask the universe and then I become ready to receive it. I look out for signs and clues, pick up on them, follow them and then receive what I wished for.

But recently I was trying another method. It is not entirely manifestation though. I ask a question to my higher self during meditation and patently wait for an answer.

As I am able to completely quieten my ego and I know that it is not my mind that making up answers, I started getting answers from somewhere unexpected.

Whenever I ask some question, I wait for a couple of minutes and then I hear answers or suggestions from pieces of conversations I had in the past with my friends and family, especially with my mother.

Or I would get answers in my mother's voice; very quick remarks or just pieces of conversations.

BTW, my mother is alive and well, so the voice in not reaching me from the other side

Is this my higher self talking to me in such ways? Doesn't it have to have one voice? I am confused...

This is definitely a way that guides use to communicate with us. When i first started seeing images during psychic readings that were more metaphorical than literal it took me a while to discern that they were messages that simply needed interpretation. It was like havin ga waking dream.

I also hear them clairaudiently, so they will talk and I can hear them with my inner ear.

Thank you for your reply. Today was the first day I have actually seen my spirit guide!!!!!!!!! I am soooo excited!!!

I started meditating using recorded guided meditation but nothing happened. Then I did not give up and I was asking for my guide to show up. I did not visualise any place or anything like that, I was just patiently wating for my guide to show up.

Then I suddenly got involved in picking up different tones of voices, images and there was a small chaos in my mind.

And then the image popped up in my mind. It was clear and it looked like a black and white picture of a man looking at me, but it was not a picture because he moved slightly. I straight away felt that it was my guide. That moment was so emotional and so exciting. I just felt with my heart that it was my guide.

It was a man around 37-40 years old, very good looking. But for some reason I only saw him in black and white colours. Do you know why?

Also I asked for his name, but I did not get any answer. It did not show up again, but I will try tomorrow.

I was probably the first time on such a high vibration, because that drained me a bit and I got some pressure in my head.

I am feeling so uplifted after seeing my guide. I know now that I am not alone and that if you really want to see your guides, you can!!!!

*Update* the pressure that I got in my head was on temples. So this was not the opening of my crown chakra, was it? It's not my third eye either... Do you know why I got such pressure in my head?

The voice of your Higher Self manifests in many different forms - you don't need to worry about the way it sounds too much. (Unless it starts growling at you or something ).

It also helps not to be too attached to where it's coming from. For example, I often hear the voice of my HS in people around me - I have overheard strangers saying exactly the message I needed to hear in response to a question I asked my HS/Guides like the day before. And ended up overhearing the exact same message again from a different stranger.

So, guidance doesn't always have to be directly from guides or your HS or in 'their' voice. It's everywhere, in fact.

Thank you so much for your answer. I got the message several times this way too. But I think I will stop this communication for a while because yesterday very strange thing happened to me.

When I went to sleep I could not put my mind to rest. I was getting pushed into deep meditative states although I wasn't trying to. Like that happened as soon as I closed my eyes.

Also I felt intense pressure and then heat at the top of my head and on temples, even in my throat. I felt this way for at least an hour, and I could not sleep for a while because of that.

Then I got into sleep but was woken up by involuntary muscle contraction in my whole body. That was the most intense one I have ever received. I remained calm, stayed in the present and embraced the moment, as spiritual teachers teach to do. So after around 10 minutes I went to sleep and I woke up feeling very well.

I don't feel as though I am ready to see what's on the next level, so I will slow down.

I will probably stop meditating for a while because I can feel the energy moving in me and it seems like I am moving whilst meditating.

Everything happens too quickly and I think it might affect my mood, although I don't pay too much attention at these happenings at the moment.

Sometimes I hear a voice that sounds like me, but is not me--I didn't think that thought. I would think it's my higher self (I have experienced this sort of thing), but the content is very negative and sometimes threatening. Like, you can't do it. Give up. If you don't get there in ten seconds, you won't get what you want.

The voice is too much of a jerk for me to listen to it. Though it doesn't come from me (it really doesn't feel like me at all), it clearly is not some voice of wisdom. I even think, "Hey! That's not nice, I wouldn't say that to myself!" No response.

So what would that be? A negative spirit? All I can figure is, better to ignore it and not to add to the negativity with fear or respect for the thoughts, and maybe it will go away completely/be transformed in time, as there will be nothing to feed on (but over time because I'm not perfect and am negative at times, though not often).

Any other ideas? It's bizarre. If I were younger or less strong, it would scare me, but I know it has no power.

Sounds like it is the ego! No wonder it is so powerless. And I guess it doesn't sound like me because it's not my true self, but acting on fear. It's so weird--but I'm so glad I've identified it. I've been trying to do what Erin talks about in that article for years (distinguishing), and it felt like I wasn't improving, but now I can see I was--any small improvement in ability to discern makes a huge difference.

Also, I want to thank Erin for the article about spirit guides guiding us. Just yesterday I had a situation where I was at the right place exactly at the right time, to get some information I needed to know. The sequence of events for that to happen was amazing, I was definitely guided! My bike lock got frozen, I was going to abandon it but I went back, I was going to go straight home, but I went elsewhere instead...and so on, until I was finally in the right place at the right time. I was floored (it wasn't even good news--but I needed to know). Reading the articles here has really increased my appreciation for everything that's going on, helping me to listen more. It's all perfect.

A funny thing is that I have often not believed my ego because my logic was so strong (and the ego often opposes logic). I think, "No, how could that be. That doesn't make any sense." Somehow, having a strong logical mind helped me become more instead of less spiritual! I figured those feelings/intuitions must exist for some reason, even if I couldn't know why at the time.

I almost eliminated ego from my mind. I have not heard this voice for a long time now. It died off when I stopped emotionally responding to it.

I was kind of scared what happened to me when I started communicating with my spirit guides. So I will stop trying to communicate with them for a while.

However, I got some advice from another thread and video that if I keep meditating the consciousness will keep awakening in me gradually and I will not be scared.

So I meditated today normally but instead of doing my usual mantra meditation, I concentrated on my breath. Both of them get me disengaged from this reality very quickly.

Today for some reason when I was resting after meditation I got into the state of meditation and a had very short dream-like experience.

I was questioning my higher self about souls and if they think and what they do between spaces of thoughts or something like that. These were strange questions to ask as they were entirely not me.

I saw dark figure of a lady standing in the doorway. She was totally dark but I could see that she had long hair.

The background was very blurry, mixed colours of white, orange and grey.

And when I asked these questions someone said: That's the right question!

And I jumped out of bed completely awake and I was sitting for a while and wondering what that supposed to mean.

But I was not scared or anything like that, so that should not be anything bad.
