Just recently I decided to try meditation as a way of settling myself, clearing my mind and reaching a state of consciousness where I can see things as they really are. I find it difficult. Clearing the mind is something that seems impossible, but I'll continue with it, nevertheless. I will also now try this guided meditation. My local bookshop should sell the CD's I need. I just worry that I'll achieve nothing more than a more active imagination. It'd be nice to speak to my guides, though. I sometimes get the feeling they have a lot to tell me |

What a super helpful post - I've just been trying to do this recently and I was doing exactly what you said not to do - lol Also, David, in reply to your post above, I also have a lot of trouble clearing my mind (especially from those nagging to do lists), but I have found that the less I worry about it, the easier it is to achieve. Anytime I have a stray thought, I simply acknowledge it as a thought as soon as I'm aware I've done it, and then move on. I've found this helps to become more aware of the present moment. Also, not getting frustrated is key, because then you simply admit you had a stray thought and then go back to your mantra, or whatever you may be using to help you meditate. It takes me a LONG time sometimes before the stray thoughts settle down - 30 to 45 minutes sometimes... I have a very active mind though (too much I'm afraid...) The time of day is important for me too - I seem to do better late at night for some reason. Sorry if I'm rambling |

Thank you for the blog post, Erin. I have had a lot of success with guided meditations. Do you (or anyone else) have any specific suggestions for CDs or other audio programs of guided meditations? I would love to try them all, but at $10 a piece, I can't. Thanks for any help or advice. Dustin |

Paraliminals are pretty good guided meditations, but not so much for reaching your guides. I'll have to search for some guided meditation CDs online. I'm sure a practice like that could shed a lot of light on all the things we repress and suppress.

Erin, when we do guided meditations like this, should we write something down? I am a person who some times forgets things. Or some times I forget some minor detail that really is a major one later. What can I do to help myself remember these conversations? Instead of guided meditations, should I do open writing instead? |

Erin, would you consider recording a Guide Invitation Guided Imagery Meditation? You have such a nice voice, I would find it very easy and pleasurable to listen to you take me to my spot and then issue a gracious invitation to my guides for a chat. Maybe the recording could be open-ended so that I may spend an unspecified time with my guides, as in: "...and as you welcome your guides and gratefully anticipate the insight they want to share with you, you grant them all the time and space needed for your highest good. You trust yourself to recognize when your visit is over, at which time you will wake up, refreshed and alert, powerfully motivated to take inspired action." Is that something you'd be willing to consider giving us, or selling as a download? |

I have to admin, this is my problem, I have such a active mind that I would just think I am manifesting everything...Also as the other person said, Erin does have a very sweet voice would be nice to have a podcast on it or something to help us bring us to that state of peacefullness with our guides.

I don't have much experience with meditation, but after reading this post I looked around and found the Secret Garden Meditation by Meditainment. I found it to be very relaxing and it brought me to a place where I could have a comfortable internal conversation, at this point I don't know if I am talking to myself, my subconscious, or my guides, but it was certainly very enjoyable, you can download a sample here: FREE Guided Meditation - The Secret Garden - by Meditainment if you decide to buy the full version it's $10.

Thanks so much for this post, Erin! It really helped me understand the difference between 'regular' meditation and the kind that helps you connect with your guides. I feel much more ready to do a guided meditation to connect with my guides now. Jeff Lilly at Druid Journal has several guided meditations. I haven't tried any of them, but having been a devoted reader of his blog for quite some time I can recommend them confidently. Erin, I too would love to have a guided meditation from you! Hi all I've tried guided mediation and I find it really hard to meet them and get answers, and if I do get answers I'm not certain that my ego is fully out of the way and it's actually really my guides I'm talking to. I've been trying for months to meet my guides in a lucid dream with no luck...do you think maybe this might work well if I tried this meditation while sleepy to see if it can lead to a Wake Induced Lucid Dream? | Hi Erin, I tried this twice so far by just trying the meditation while I was trying to sleep but all that happens is I fall asleep and dream non lucid dreams. What's the right way to do it you were talking about?

Ok wait, let me make sure we're talking about the same thing. What do you mean a "wake back to bed" You may not get a lucid dream when you do the meditation, but you will likely get a message dream. So even if it's not lucid, pay close attention to the dream symbols that night. |

As a side note, I was attempting this last night again after a WBTB, after a while I felt a burning/vibrating sensation in my throat, it really felt like my throat chakra was being activated? You ever experienced this Erin? Last edited by NDavid; 01-28-2009 at 12:04 AM.

Yes you have to go to sleep eventually, but not until you're done wiht the meditation. It sounded like you were falling asleep during the meditation. And yes a WBTB is a good way to trigger a lucid dream. Throat chakra is where clairaudience is attached. Were you hearing your guides speaking to you? |

Usually I do fall asleep during the meditation, so your supposed to finish meditating then go to sleep then? hmm, no I didn't hear them talking to me at all, I've never felt that sensation in my throat before, but I could feel the heat and energy rush up from my stomach and come to rest in my throat. S o far I've only had a few lucid dreams, evrytime I get to meet my guides I wasn't able to maintain lucidity. I always stabilised the dream before finding them etc, and I even tried asking them in my most recent lucid dream how I could stabilise it so I could talk to them but then I lost lucididty...very frustrating for me and them too because I really think they're trying to get through to me too |

problem is I find it hard to discern what they're saying, or if it's really them talking or my ego, that's the whole reason I want to speak to them in a lucid dream, that way I can bypass everything and speak directly to them.

| I just tried this a couple of days ago, and found it very useful. In fact, I was quite amazed at how well it worked. Once I got to the part where I sit down and wait for someone to show up, a spirit guide showed up instantly and said hi to me. It was the same spirit that I had seen in a dream, and I recognized him immediately. I was able to hear his voice very clearly (so I guess I'm experiencing this via clairaudience) - Yes it did feel like I was talking to myself at first, but I just went with it, and got some great, surprising advice. We had a nice long conversation about my near future, and also about my mom. I can't wait to do it again!
