Question Seeing a Bright Green Circle with Eyes Closed

When my eyes are closed, I sometimes see a bright green circle/ellipse with a hole in the middle. Sometimes it has a portion missing - about a fifth from the top-left wasn't there this morning. And sometimes it's only visible from one eye, but it's not the same eye every time.

What does this mean and what can I do about it?

Googling only produced one relevant answer: a vague thread on another forum, which unsurprisingly attributed it to the forum's topic. I'm after a more detailed understanding.

In my experience, this happens whenever I put too much pressure on my eyes for too long a period of time. Though I see a white ellipse rather than a green one. No idea about the causes after that though.

Maybe you should see a doctor and get your eyes checked.

Thanks for the conventional advice; already done that - neither doctor/optician is concerned, but also can't explain. Also have four recent years of biomedical study and access to plenty of physiological resources.

So I'm asking here.
