Dear Erin,

Thank you for your wonderful blog entry! It filled my heart with warmth I needed. I feel magic inside, it's "kinda like Christmas" when you feel calm and warm and joyful....

I think, it's the warmth of your heart that I value the most when I read your blog.

The people who act as signposts for which direction NOT to go -- they're your guides, too.

Yes - The post reminded me of a relationship that ended *horribly* a few years ago. I had never, ever had my heart broken in a relationship, and I certainly did with that one. I mean - curled up on the floor in a ball kind of heartbroken. I used to kinda scoff at women who would talk about that - I mean, what was their problem? I was much stronger than that. At least, through the experience, I gained a little more compassion for people who find themselves there.

I also figure he was an angel in disguise, forcing my life to go *away* from one direction.

I know I have received guidance, and I also know I have been a guide at times, as well as being a channel for other guides. Really great post, Erin!

ahhh yes up until recently i didn't realize we could have spirit guides on earth here as well.

i can give you the extreme example when i learned about a friend who had found out through reiki she had been a spirit guide for someone when she was much younger.

she had never repeated this story until she had it uncovered by her reiki master and now feels comfortable to talk about it. she had been walking home from elementary school when she saw this girl who looked quite familiar in a car with her dad. they waved and she figured she went to her school. somehow she got invited into the car for a ride home and she got in without even questioning it. as soon as she got in she had a terrible feeling and didn't realize what she got herself into. a few minutes later they got into a car crash and as the car was spinning she opened the door and jumped out because she was afraid her parents would find out she was in a car with people she didn't really know and kept running and never looked back.
apparently she realized after she really didn't know the girl at all.
the reason why they waved at each other was because they recognized each other's spirits. she didn't know what happened to this girl afterward until her reiki master told her; the girl died in that car crash that day and she acted as a catalyst to release the girl from a life of being sexually abused by her father.
she had always had a strange inkling that she had had some sort of experience with sexual abuse but could never understand why because she never actually recalled being so. but she just sensed or picked up a part of that girl's energy that day and had been carrying it around since.
true story!!

Wow. That last experience was amazing.

Erin, beautifully written blog entry. It reminds me of the time I was at a theatre "after" party with my husband and I met a person there who comforted me just when I needed it most.

I have a mother with Alzheimers and my father is caring for her. It's always on my mind. This particular week I had been really sad about her condition and my father refusing my help because he wants to do it all by himself. He refuses to put her in a home and I'm worried that he is going to become run down and ill.

So anyway, we went to this party and I met one of the actors there whose name was "Michael" (of all names!). Turns out, he was caring for his mother all by himself. We ended up talking all night about our experiences. The strange part is that it felt as if time stood still. I didn't want the night to end.

Exactly, Dandelion. These moments, these chance encounters, are often pivotal even when we don't realize it at the time it's happening.

Great Post, Erin!
It's weird because I met a guy last year who commented, out of all things, that my voice was soothing. I have kind of a high-pitched, soft speaking voice, kind of like a little kid lol, and I've had people tell me everything from it sounding like a Disney princess to being a cartoon character!

Anyway, to make a long story short, we got together and played the piano, and I started liking him. I have no idea why because I don't usually have crushes like that. He's told me that he wanted to get together and play the piano again, but I'm really not sure what to do about the whole crush.

My intuition tells me that there's something more to this whole thing, and whenever I try to only think of him as a friend and tell myself I'm being silly and that he doesn't like me, I get this feeling of pain. It almost feels as though I'm tearing away from a part of me or something like that.
It's weird because no one else understands. They chalk it up to just being in love, but it feels different. I'm kind of at my wit's end. lol He could be a human spirit guide, though.

Thoughts?

Ya know, I have to admit that my spirit guides had a huge influence in this article. I wrote it in about 10 minutes and pretty much channeled what they said. They even came up with the title. I was going to go with "guides on earth" but they threw in the whole Starbucks motif. This article got tons of views thanks to Stumbleupon. I think maybe I should step off and let my guides write my articles...

Erin, very good article! Actually, I haven't visited your blog in some time...being so busy here but I did read this article this morning.

& I found it to be extremely accurate. I've had a recent experience meeting this guy who introduced me to "Conversations with God" which I would've never read unless I had met him. I met him through a roommate finder service. I never did rent the room (wasn't what I was looking for) but I did find the book enormously helpful for where I was at at that point in time.... I was leaving my marriage & it reminded me of what I've felt was my life purpose.

Anyhow, I also have personally felt compelled to talk to people at certain times or get to know people. I don't know why but maybe I'm a "guide" of sorts for them. I dunno!

Erin,

Although I didn't realise it until I read your blog, I have encountered many spirit guides on earth, far too numerous to count. I am always fascinated with coincidences, and the way things seem to happen, just when you need them most.

One example that has always stuck out in my mind was way back in 1987. I live in Australia, and was travelling through the USA. On my trip to Boston, I had to get from the airport to the bus, and then catch the bus to where I was going to be picked up by the people I was staying with. However, when I reached Boston airport, I realised that I would have to carry my heavy luggage a long way, and that I probably wouldn't be able to do it without help, or it would have taken me a very long time. Out of the blue came a young guy who picked up my luggage and carried it for me, across a bridge and all the way to the bus. I thought he might run away with my bags, but when we reached the destination he put my luggage down and then then merged into the crowd. I never saw him again and don't know anything about him, but he was definitely one of those "Starbucks Spirit Guides."

If I sat and thought about it, I would be able to come up with many more examples but that was the one that immediately popped into my head while reading your blog.

Thanks so much for pointing something out to me that is so obvious now that you have pointed it out!

I was drawn back to this blog today and I received an amazing inspiration!

I think I've always tended to listen to whoever tells me information in what I would call a "straight scoop" kind of way, but really, this kind of stuff usually makes me feel worse. I characterize it that way because usually the delivery/message is harsh and for some reason I think I "deserve" that so I justify it as "straight scoop" (chin up and take it like a...woman!). This is partly due to how I was raised.

So I was reading this blog today and thought How would I know a guide's guidance if it bonked me in the head? I then landed on the word "comfort" in Erin's blog and realized that if I'm not feeling comfort, it's not helpful to me.

Not to say that hearing a negative word doesn't also point me in a better direction, too, but harsh words cloaked in comfort's clothes isn't that. It's a way for someone to try to coerce me. Or punish. Not good.

I'm going to pay attention to what comforts me.

Thanks, Erin!

Default coincidental timing

Erin,

I hadn't read this blog but it coincides perfectly with my blog yesterday.

Let me splain'

All during this recent election I was constantly annoyed by an elderly "jive" African American that had an Obama shrine out in front of my local grocery store. (T-shirts, posters, etc....) I'm a Reagan Republican and everything Obama stands for disgusts me. (and I'm not talking about his skin color). But this guy would always hound me for money for the campaign.

Much to my surprise, I see the guy yesterday at the same place 30 days after his guy was elected. I guess there's big profits in selling Obama t-shirts. So he comes at me with a zealous jive. Now I'm really pissed because the democrats in DC are giving away our children's future like it's monopoly money, so I take the bait and tell him what a hack I think Obama is.

He then makes a statement about how I reminded him of a guy he knew when he was touring with Ike and Tina Turner. And I said:'You did the chitlin circuit"? He replies:"Hell Ya"

From there the thought of politics vanished. We had mutual friends in the music business that we had both played with/for. We talked about Sam Cook, Jackie Wilson, Little Richard, Johnny Mathis, Muddy Waters, etc... Long story short, we ended the conversation by exchanging verbal "I Love You's" (as in a Christian/fellow musician type of love) and I walked away feeling completely wrong about my previous attitude. It's given me the ability to separate the person from their behavior. This person I despised turned out to be someone that taught me a serious lesson about life and myself.

I'm convinced he was put into my life for that specific reason.

Thanks for the post.

I hope thread-cromancy (bumping old topics) isn't a no-no here, but something's been bothering me since I read this post a few days ago.

Is it possible for people being guided by their spirit guides to fail?

Here's the situation: last year at college, I felt like I was being pushed to make friends with the girl living in the rez room next to me. I was rather shy, however, and intimidated because she was really pretty. I even crushed on her a bit. (I'm a bi girl.) I kept figuring I'd get around to it later, and then October and November came and people had formed their little cliques already.

November 11th, Remembrance Day here in Canada, there was a meeting for a newspaper I was going to edit for. I didn't really feel like going, and experienced quite the reluctance to do so, but I chalked it up to being lazy and not wanting to spend forty minutes on the bus and ignored my gut.

A few days later, I found out that the girl in the room next door had killed herself that day.

I went to see a school counselor for a while and was shocked at how I totally broke down with her, even though I don't share my emotions with people lightly. Now I can't look at the building where she jumped without cringing, and it's quite close to my university so I see it frequently. It always feels like it's telling me I failed.

I feel like a helper, a guide of some sort. I'm only 18, but I've already helped several suicidal people get through and see the light at the end of the tunnel. I sometimes wonder if my mission is to help others in this way.

Upon reading this post, I started to wonder if maybe I was supposed to help this girl, too. I was put in the room next to her, rather than one of hundreds of other kids, for a reason. But I ignored all my impulses and gut feelings that I should talk to her, and I failed.

Is this possible? Do people guided by their spirit guides to help others like this fail?

Thanks so much for any insight anyone can provide. Off to explore the rest of the forums now.

Yes people miss signs all the time but you bear no responsibility for that nor did you fail at anything. There could have been 10 other people "sent" to help her.

Thanks for the perspective. Life goes on and I'm allowing myself to heal, but I think it's good to know this so that I can keep a better eye on my intuition in the future.
