Hi all, I lost my voice on Friday, and I've never lost it before. It's weird not to be able to use your voice. (Anyway, I've been trying not to use my voice for the past couple days in hopes of it coming back (although coughing still uses it, I guess, but I can't help the coughing)... And I had to cancel a performance of mine because using my voice is integral to it... (blah!) I was wondering, if one loses their voice, how does that tie in to the throat chakra? What could it 'mean'? I've been trying to keep my chakras clear and unblocked... at least I think/hope I'm doing it right, so I'm not sure why it happened. I've had colds in the past where I've coughed way more that I have been recently and never lost my voice. Ideas? Opinions? Insight? |

I found this for you: "The throat chakra is definitely related to communication and our ability to express ourselves, and that can be a complex thing, beyond just talking openly. Sometimes we're not speaking what's really on our minds to others, or more importantly, admitting truths to ourselves. This chakra is about living your truth in all ways, so being honest with ourselves and others and living by it facilitate the free flow of energy through the throat space. Relatedly, vishuddha is also associated with hearing, the ears and listening. A lot of people feel uexpressed emotions, especially grief and love, as a lump in the throat. This happens to me from time to time. You could try gently breathing white light into the space and mentally chanting 'hum', the bij mantra, during meditation to help dissolve any blockage you may be experiencing." -quickclaude Here's some meditation videos on youtube dedicated to the throat chakra that might be helpful:Click Here Last edited by daj; 08-17-2008 at 11:13 AM. |

I have an interesting story to share, concerning the loss of voice and the 3rd chakra. This incident happened to me in June this year: A Victim of My Own Magick? « The Magickal Mind |

Whilst I would like to tell you, ignore the chakra stuff, it is relevant to a holistic diagnosis. If you are losing your voice, you are incorrectly using your voice. I'd suggest find a singing teacher versed in the Alexander technique, who can listen to your voice and look at your posture and can correct your use. I've just recently started listening to the "Roger Love - Vocal Power" CD series, and he goes through different ways people incorrectly use their voice, and what they can do to correct this. Now, the reason as to WHY you started using your voice incorrectly, probably has a psychological base, and the chakra ideas should shed some light on areas to look at. |

I just wanted to say thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I know why I lost it - from a physical standpoint, anyway. 1st is that I've been sick with a cold, or maybe it's bronchitis, who knows... and I've been coughing a lot. The day before I lost it, I was using my voice a lot, which was already in a pretty bad shape from the coughing... and my throat had dried out from not keeping it properly hydrated. Someone advised my to take it easy on my voice, so I figured that meant I should whisper for the rest of the night. But then AFTER the fact I found out that apparently whispering is one of the worse things you could do. I think all of those things combined caused me to lose my voice. So I went on a vocal rest where I refrained from using my voice for about 2.5 days (although I couldn't keep myself from coughing). It came back, although not in the best of conditions. But then again I am still sick and coughing quite a bit :P I did do a throat chakra clearing meditation that was different than what I normally do, and it is possible that that has helped as well. Now I just have to concentrate on getting better! I know that we all have the ability to heal ourselves; I wish I understood how to tap into this ability / energy. I dislike going to doctors because they generally just treat the symptoms and not the cause... but that being said i wonder if i should go to one anyway. |
