I took some time this morning to really immerse myself into this forum and came across a few posts on spiritual contracts, which got me thinking....Do we have/make spiritual contracts with animals? Here is why I ask... Back in 1997, (when I was 23) my hubby and I found ourselves at a fleamarket, mainly there to kill time before going to a BBQ, when we came across a man selling puppies. (This was before I knew puppy mills existed). I held all of the dogs, but one of them literally clung to me (in a very familiar sense....not like please take me home sense---it wasn't a desperate feeling at all). I handed the man the puppy back and left. Later on that day, I couldn't help but think about how my feelings were so strong toward the puppy and how familiar and loving that puppy was to me. The man said the puppy was only 8 weeks old at the time. So, after a few discussions with my husband (he did not want to get a dog at the time) .....he relented and we went back to get the puppy. We waffled back and forth all the way there about getting a dog and for one moment, I turned and looked at my husband and said, "Fine! You go back and tell that dog why we can't get her!" I know that may sound strange, but we both laugh at it now. So, as we pulled up into the parking lot I remember feeling a very strong sense of comfort almost (nostalgic) about us coming back for the dog (none of my experiences with dogs have ever felt quite like this). The man at the flea market handed me the puppy and she lept into my arms as though we had known each other for years. She wasn't shaken like most animals frightened over whats happened, she was calm. (I remembered the experience well as I had written in my diary about it). The idea of getting a dog was not extraordinary, it was the experience and timing and my intuitive sense of nostalgia that made it feel extraordinary. This experience and the circle of events surrounding it made me wonder if we make spiritual contracts with our pets or animals or their guides....maybe??? I have a very kindred relationship with animals and it seems as this was one of the first times I realized my intuitive nature around them where it wasn't just me sensing on my end. I knew I would have wanted a dog that day, but our being in an unlikely place and the familiarlity of the experience...now looking back at it.....makes me ponder this question. Sorry this story turned into a minibook....I appreciate all comments on this. Ladybug |

It sounds like a soul recognition or knowing. I had a similar experience 10 yrs ago. A friend called in to show us her new puppy. I wasn't really a dog person and wouldn't have gone out looking for one. This little puppy nestled into my lap and went to sleep during her vist. When she left I handed the pup back to her through the window of her car and felt a huge wrench in my heart. As she drove off, the words 'that's my dog' blurted out of my mouth. My kids laughed and I felt quite stupid. Four days later I got a call from my friend asking if I could please have the pup. Her overindulged cat was viciously jealous and making life unbearable. Ten yrs on that little dog has bought so much love and laughter in my family.I know she was mine all along. Lallymac |

Lallymac.....isn't it funny how the universe works. I think back to that day and ask myself....what caused us to stop at that flea market....we were never regulars at flea markets. One of the reasons I posted about my dog was she recently passed away two months ago and her death made me think about her life and how much love and joy she brought to us. She was the only dog I ever had that actually hugged you when you asked for one. Ladybug |

awww yes in my experience as well they are my cats definitely are.. (well mine passed away a few years back) but my friend insisted on getting a cat a year ago. she had gone to the humane society to check them out. she had felt this connection with this feral kitten that was not used to humans. i went back with her when she finally was going to make a decision and when she went to see the kitten it was so friendly toward her.. playing with her .. but with everyone else it was still shy. she did end up adopting her another experience was that i had been walking down a street in my neighbourhood and this lady i didn't recognize was passing me by with her dog. the dog slowly stopped in front of me and was just staring at my legs with awe like it was in some sort of shock. all of a sudden it jumped up and was greeting me with such joy and the owner was shocked because it never pays any attention with strangers. (i didn't have any food on me either :P) that made me wonder about reincarnation or even verify my belief in it! i've always wondered if it was my cat's soul.. |
