Default how to contact guides in a dream?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice on how to speak to your guides in your dreams? Erin mentioned in one of her articles that the best way to speak to a guide was to meet them halfway in a dream. I've set the intention to speak with them in a dream for like 3 weeks now with no success.

Thanks :-)

You could reinforce the intention by working out what you want to talk to them about and letting them know beforehand.

Hi Mato, I haven't had a lucid dream since I was very young.

Hi Anna, I have tried that, I even spoke out aloud what I wanted to talk to about while driving in my car.

Actually, there's a couple of experiences I should tell you about. About a week or so ago I had a dream, in that dream I remember a female there who I din't have any contact with but when I reflected on the dream later on, I remembered that I could sense tat she seemed to emanate fear and evil. Then last night something really weird happened. I wrote down that I was going to meet and speak to my guides in my dream before I went to sleep. I also lisened to inspirational music to raise my vibration. But when I went to bed, I felt fear like I haven't felt since I was a child, I felt like there was a really powerful evil presence in the room. The best way I can explain it is that I felt like as soon as I fell asleep I was going to be pulled into the astral realm and attacked. Now this is really weird because I've never had an astral experience before (hell I've only had a lucid dream once when I was a kid) and all this stuff is foreign to me.

Now I did read Erins article on her encounter with an astral vampire that night, so at first I thought that it was just my imagination playing tricks on me, but before I went to bed I was vibing on a high level and not even thinking about the article when suddenly it switched and I swear I could feel this fear deep in my solar plexus, warning me of imminent danger (no I don't get this often at all). I remembered what Erin wrote in her articles and imagined myself surrounded by protective white light etc, then I went to sleep. I had weird dreams, but no direct one on one contact with my guides. Do you think this has anything to do with why I haven't been successful yet in talking to my guides?

Sometimes we block ourselves off from our Guides subconsciously because we don't really want to know what they have to say or because what we think we want to change is actually giving us something that we either need or think we need. That's the whole "Ego" thing.

Our Guides - well, mine anyway - have a lot of fun breaking down my Ego and letting me know that I'm being an ass when I am or when I'm doing something self-destructive. But then I've had a strong connection with my Guides for a while now. If I had not, I can see a thousand different ways my Ego could have kept me from communicating with them.

I don't know if this is the reason you're blocked right now, but it's a possibility and something to roll around in your mind for a while.

I've already considered this and I've actually written down my intention for my guides to explain to me what it is I need to learn from the problems I'm having. I've already had a reading with Erin and I know that the problems are there for me to develop an understanding of certain things. That's why I want to meet and speak to them directly in a dream, because when I'm awake it's too difficult to discern their voice from my own, in a dream however it'd be clear cut. All I've been getting though is weird dreams that can mean any number of things. What I want is an actual interaction with them so I can hear all their answers - whatever they may be, so I can finally understand.

Have you ever met your guides in your dreams? Did you have to go lucid or did you just set the intention?

I've certainly met with my Guides in my Dreams. But I began communicating with them directly long before they came to me in the Dreamtime.

As for setting an intention, let me share with you an excercise an old Sensei of mine used to like to pull on new students:

Set a pen on a table and instruct the person to pick it up. Congratulate them when they do and ask them to set it back down.

Now, ask them to "TRY" to pick it up. They'll look at you quizzically and then pick up the pen. Tell them, "No. I told you to TRY to pick up the pen, not to pick it up. Do it again."

After a while, they'll either get frustrated or try to tell you that they don't understand. They may, depending on their background, try to tell you that attaching an outcome to the intention of picking up the pen is immaterial and that in either case, the first or the second, the attempt was made. Success or failure in this case is moot.

Those last kinds are the tough ones, because it will take them a long, long, long time to get the point of the excercise.

The point is very "Yoda-like" - "Do or do not. There is no 'try.'"

Talking to your Guides is the same. Setting an intention to talk to your Guides is "trying" to talk to your Guides.

Quit trying and just DO it (copyright Nike, 1996)

Thanks for the advice Mato but I never understood the practical application of the "do or do not, there is no try". If I could just do it Nike style I would've succeeded already and I wouldn't need to post for help on here :-).

I've tried to do it repeatedly with minimal success.

By the way something is happening though, I'm remembering more of my dreams lately (though I can't make sense of them). Last night I had a dream that a magpie was pecking me but it didn't hurt or cause any injury. I ended up shooimg it off. Does a magpie symbolise anything or could it have been an animal guide?

To see a magpie in your dream, signifies dissatisfaction and disagreements and that you need to be careful of what you say and do.

To see a dead magpie in your dream, symbolizes that malicious rumors will lead to the downfall of another.

Why not try this instead... If you have a questions ask outloud for the universe/nature to show you the answer. I did this after doing Steve's Find your life purpose article. An hour went by and I didn't cry over any of the things I jotted down, even thou Steve kept on telling people in the article that they must show an uncontrollable emotional response. I stopped writing stuff down, and then decided to ask the universe/nature to show me what my purpose was in life. 30 minutes after that my next door neighbor started playing his piano, and then the memories fluttered in of all the chances in life I've had to play the piano, and how this is what I need to be doing. Then while walking my dog thinking about how I need to become a piano performer, I saw a beautiful bluejay feather on the ground. Ever since I was young I've collected feathers, an indian boy once told me "finding feather's indicate your on the right path". That was the universes's way of answering my question. I understood all the signs it was giving me. We all have our own way of listening and discovering the answers. So try that instead, just be opened to any answer it gives you.

A magpie is a symbol of happiness in Chinese symbolism. I'm not sure if there are other interpretations, though.

That's because you're still "trying" to talk to them. It's a self-constructed roadblock. Unintentional, I'm sure, but self-constructed nonetheless.

How well can you quiet your mind? Do you have much experience with meditation or Yoga or other mind/body practice?

Experiment with free-writing. I prefer writing by hand, but typing should work, too. Sit down to write, knowing that you want the answers to come from your guides, write down a question, and continue to write as the answer comes to you. Let go of concerns about whether or not it's you answering and simply let the words flow. Continue with more questions and answers.

Kaspian,

Yes I have tried that free writing technique. It tends to raise more questions for me than answers! lol. It's not a bad tecnique though, but my personality, the way I am, talking is my best form of communication.

Daj,

Yeah, asking things aloud is the way I do things now. Signs have been good for me in the past, but I'm at a point where I need actual answers now and signs aren't enough.

Mags,

hmm happiness huh? Not quite there yet, maybe magpies indicated impending happiness! :-)

Mato,

This is the fourth reply you've given me, thanks for the effort you're going too, I appreciate it :-). I don't really have alot of practice at meditation/yoga. I mean my mind is never quiet when I've done these things. That's the reason I want to talk to them, that way none of my nonsense can interfere and it can be just them and me.

I thought of unintentional roadblocks too. Last night I wrote the intention for them to speak to me regardless of the answers they had and that if I couldn't recognise them in the dream for them to interfere and let me know it's them. I basically gave them permission to take over my dream and force me to recognise them. Had funny dreams but no concious conversation with my guides. The dreams I'm having though, I'm sure that my guides are trying to contact me but I never recognise them in my dream. I don't understand what's stopping them just talking to me, after all I've given them permission that no matter what happens, I want them to talk to me.

Very little effort on my part actually, but you're welcome nonetheless. Before any more effort is spent trying to contact your Guides, I'd suggest working on quieting your mind. All that inner chatter, what the Toltecs call the "Mitote", is likely keeping you from experiencing anything truly useful.

The technique I've used to very good effect is finding a comfortable position - laying down is even fine if that's the way you can be most relaxed - concentrating on my breathing for a few minutes: In through the nose as deeply as possible, hold my breath for ten heart beats, release the breath through my mouth. I do this several (about twelve or 16 times).

Then I picture myself on the banks of a fast-flowing river. I concentrate on creating as much detail as possible in the vision. I include all aspects of my five ordinary senses:

I SEE the water, the trees, the myriad colors of leaves and grass and rock;

I HEAR the babbling water gurgle and splash over the rocks in the riverbed, the way the breeze rustles the leaves and makes a whispering sound as they rub together;

I FEEL the breeze caress my face and the splashes of the water that gets kicked up in the air by the spalshing water in the river;

I SMELL the wild mushrooms in the mouldering leaves on the forest floor, the pine needles and cedar sap as it wafts on the breeze - I even SMELL the half-eaten and decaying Sockeye that bobs and dips on the edge of the stream in an eddie;

I TASTE the moisture in the air and way the evergreens sit on the wind with their sharp tang.

Once I have this Vision created as Truly as possible, I turn my attention to the steam itself. You see, the Stream is my thoughts. I allow the stream to run rough and swollen as if from a long winter's snow-melt or heavy spring shower.

Then, I begin to reduce the amount of water that flows in the stream.

From a raging torrent to a fast-running river.

From a river to a stream.

From a stream to a creek.

From a creek to a rill.

From a rill to a trickle.

...then dry.

My mind is quiet and I have entered the Nagual.

That's how I do it anyway. Maybe it will work for you. Maybe not. But you'll never know if you don't try.

Bon Chance.
