Default Blocked? fighting against oneself.

This scenario keeps happening in my life over the past couple years and I don't know what's wrong with me.

It's this sensation of being blocked. More like blocking myself... if that makes any sense?

I feel silly giving my exact scenario, but I'll try to generalize them:
1- I decide I am going to do something
2- I make plans to put my decision in motion
3- I put off taking the most crucial steps necessary to carrying my decision through
4- I put it off even more, justifying to myself that I still have lots of time, that I can still easily pull this off with some concentrated last-minute effort.
5- I probably could even pull it off according to #4 but I feel stuck and unable to do so. I'm fighting against myself.
Result - I set myself up for failure, and panic, and stress.

The thing is, I have been successful before, so I know I'm capable of doing this stuff. Yet I've been running into the same problems with myself these past 2-3 years. Maybe it's because I haven't 'learned my lessons' from the previous instances? Although I THINK I have, but then when it comes down to showing that I have, I seem paralyzed once again. (Am I afraid to be successful?)

I suppose I could post this in Steve's forum but for some reason I am drawn to post this here, instead.

I dunno... Maybe I'm just putting things off even more by coming here. But I really am hoping for some helpful words or guidance or wisdom.

I need to break this horrible cycle for once and for all.

Ask yourself what will happen if/when you actually do the thing you're planning to do, and then ask yourself if you're ready for all of that. A lot of people claim to be ready for success but when they realize all that it entails, they put on the brakes.

I've go this problem too. When I think about doing it's like trying to put two magnets together despite them pushing away from each other. Most of the time I fly off to the side and do some procrastinating.

Here are some quotes from Abraham-Hicks on procrastination:

What is the definition of procrastination? It means: I can feel within my Energy sensor that this action is not in perfect alignment at this time.

Don’t beat up on yourself about procrastination, for this reason. When you are focussed upon what you want and you are in a place of really expecting…in other words pure creation…you will be inspired to action and the action comes easily. But if you are not really clear about what you want. Or if your expectation is not quite yet in alignment then it takes more action. But even in offering the action it is counter productive because you are working against yourself. In other words you are splitting the energy. You are following? So procrastination is nothing more than your physical realization that you are acting too soon. That some mental alignment is in order.

Like Erin said, you will need to do some reflecting on why you aren't perfectly aligned with your intention... Do you have limiting beliefs? Do you feel ready for the consequences (good and bad) of taking action?

Thanks for your replies, folks.

I worked my hardest until I couldn't give in to sleep; I had 20hour long days for about five days straight, and I was able to achieve something I feel alright with the result, and don't consider failure.

So, yay!

I think it would be interesting for Steve and Erin to write some blog entries together, almost like a conversation. For example, I think it would be fascinating to read Steve's view of Will, determination, and self-discipline and Erin's take on the same but from the perspective of tapping into Source-energy, opening your chakras, one's Soul-energy, etc.

Hi Rachelle,

When you find it hard to reach a goal, it is often alerting you to an unhealed part of yourself which feels that:

a. you are undeserving of success (feelings of unworthiness)
b. you might not be able to do it perfectly (feelings of inadequacy/perfectionism)

and this is usually the part that is sabotaging you. When we struggle and bang our heads against a brick wall, it is the soul’s way of saying ‘you aren’t in energetic alignment with that goal right now, you have some growing/healing to do’.

Setting a goal and really wanting to get there is an opportunity to evolve and develop spiritually (after all this is what the soul has come here to do). Really wanting to reach that goal prompts you to self-develop and become the person who can reach the goal (e.g. becoming more resourceful, more self-loving, etc)

It can also give you an opportunity to heal those self-sabotaging parts of you that might not have come up if you had reached your goal straight away.

If this applies to you, try speaking to that part of you that resonates with the self-sabotage and ask it what it has to teach you or what you have to heal from the past.

Anna

Thanks for the insight Anna.

I think a lot of things I have been struggling with over recent years are finally coming to a conclusion of sorts. I've recently made the decision to live my life in accordance and alignment with my vision and goals (and passions and dreams). This is starting to happen for me, too! Which is wonderful!

And sometimes I have to remind myself that I am capable and strong. Learning to trust in myself while not giving in to self-doubt and worry of what others will think has been a long journey. But I think I'm finally getting there!

p.s. perfectionism is something that holds me back, too. working on it, though...

Rose, they're actually from Abraham's daily quotes, which are taken from various workshop transcripts.
