Time to Die

Hi!

Erin, I remember you wrote in your blog that you decide when to die, so if a loved one passes away we should be comforted by the fact that they themselves made this decision. But what if this person was murdered or something? Did they still choose to die? People have free will so they can mess up any plans you made before you were born as a human. So do we really choose when we die?

Also, I have a question related to this about animals. Some people, like Steve, refuse to eat them because they don't endorse the abusive and cruel way they are slaughtered. They should be given a chance at life. But couldn't you have chosen to be a pig or some other animal in order to experience this cruelty for yourself? So the animal intended to be slaughtered this way, they never intended to have a chance at life in the first place. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't get why people who believe we have chosen our life circumstances say that animals should not be slaughtered, since it was their intention to be slaughtered to begin with.

This extends to suffering in general, actually. People who are dying of hunger and all, didn't their higher selves intend for this to happen? If we were to help them out wouldn't this be ruining their original plan?

I'm not saying I support suffering or anything like that. I just want to understand.

I don't personally believe that people and animals incarnate as the other.

Animals choose to incarnate knowing that they MAY be slaughtered for food, but still do it to bring awareness and compassion to the plight of food animals.

And I do think some people incarnate knowing they will suffer terribly but do it to bring awareness to the whole of humanity, to give us the option of changing.

People who are murdered generally are not choosing their time of death. but in some circumstances, which are rare, they agree to be part of a murder situation or at least know it's a strong possibility.

Being the one to slaughter the animal promotes negative energy. It may not be objectively bad that the animal was slaughtered, but by taking that sort of role in the animal's life, you're still channeling dead, stagnant energy through yourself.

That isn't necessarily what I believe, but I think that's a good explanation.

In reply to this first question I doubt many people are consciously aware that they have made decisions in regard to the course of their life, after they are born. Although I've found it quite intriguing that some people unconsciously prepare for their own death. A close friend passed away recently and tracking back the course of events leading up to her unexpected death, she'd done some unusual things like taken out life insurance, reconnected and mediated a rift between her children, given away lifelong personal treasures.

Another friend told me how his wife had bought a months groceries, spring cleaned the house, and paid all the household bills in advance during the last days leading up to her sudden unexpected death. She even left a book on death and dying under his pillow. This lady died of a heart attack and had no prior heart or health problems in her early fifties. My friend was so devastated at the lengths she'd gone to to make sure he was taken care of that he traveled to the UK to personally see a medium he'd seen on TV so he could tell his wife how much he loved her. He reckons he'd taken her from granted and needed to let her know.

I wonder how many other people have stories like this to tell.

Maybe life has such a secret, magical purpose that we barely half understand. And death, is a culmination, an almost orgasmic part of that life's secret magical purpose? I feel we don't die until we have completed what we are here for. (And we don't very often consciously know what that is) But when it's done, we die. There are some very strange things attending death. Once, I was almost killed. Two hours before, I had no idea this was going to happen. It was an ordinary day. As I was finishing work, a stranger came up to me, and began to chat. All his (quietly-spoken, gentle) conversation was more or less asking me what I had got out of life up to that point, what had I learned, etc, etc. He seemed like not quite from this world. Later I reviewed the whole series of events, and wondered if it were possible I were being given certain choices surrounding death...? That only my deeper mind could process?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what happened out of this? I mean why do you say you were almost killed? Forgive me if it is too personal, but you only say that someone asked you what you had gotten out of life. Curiosity abouns....
