| Hi, Sometimes people say "I'm getting to know myself" or "I want to meet my higher self". Is this really a different perspective of looking at things or are there different parts of us? For instance when I want to remember a dream I have to say to myself, "You are going to remember you dream"; implying, that I have to command some part of me. I have been using the concept of three selves (concious, subconcious, higher-concious), to achieve the things I want, which I adopted from huna. I was wondering if this seperation is some sort of mind trick like the guy from "Fight Club" who created an imaginary character with all the traits he wanted but was timid to try. Neblasian |

| In my experience, consciousness is like a bubble. The more awake/aware you are, the more the bubble expands and begins to encompass the subconscious and superconscious. When your are internalizing the phrase "you are going to remember your dream" you are actually just making a conscious decision as to where you will place your awareness. The phrase you say to yourself is secondary to the act of will. For example, you could for one day make a conscious decision to pay attention to the sensation of your feet contacting the ground as you walk. Whether or not you internalize the decision as vocal information is not important. What happened is that you consciously willed your awareness to encompass something. I suppose from the point of view of the ego-mind, if it is adding a verbal command to the act of will, then it would seem as if it is running the show, giving orders. |
