I hear people talk about Astral Projection like it is a profoundly awareness-raising experience, regardless of your beliefs when you first experience it. People like William Buhlman claim that it is an essential step in human evolution. Other people make it sound like a fun hobby, but not much more profound than a Ouija Board. You mentioned in a blog post that it lessened your fear of death. For someone who tends to feel ruled by uncertainty, pathological doubt, and emotional baggage from a fire-and-brimstone upbringing, would Astral Projection be likely to change me? Would you prescribe it for me? Of course, anyone can answer this, not just Erin. |

Leaving your body behind and realizing it is just the house for your consciousness helps you become unafraid of life and death. since most people are afraid of both (to varying degrees) it can be extremely helpful to have that confirmation that your soul goes on when you leave the body. For most people, astral projection is just interesting, possibly fun, possibly scary, and definitely thought provoking. I wouldn't say any human NEEDS to do it since it is not really part of the living process, but it is cool nonetheless. And if you intend to be an astral warrior, fight evil, and kick some demon ass, then I'd say it's essential to master it. |

So is it that when you die you go to the astral plane, or at least you travel through the astral plane to get to the afterlife? Im trying to better understand death. It doesnt scare me as much as i thought it would, even now that i usually answer my own questions with an atheist point of veiw. Its just hard to talk about such things with the people i love who have so much faith in their religion because they are too afraid or dont want to hear about the posibility that there is nothing after our life on earth and that the ones they have lost are gone. I can accept the posibility, but it still scares me to an extent. I have not been to the astral plane, as far as i know. but i wonder if its only subjective, like its just a intense dream, or if its a place only reached by conscious living beings and once your dead your just gone. Im just having a hard time understanding since i have yet to have any strong experience with the paranormal. The closest ive gotten to any of the things talked about on this forum is a few short lucid dreams, but i am looking forward to better understanding life and death. |

The astral plane is not where you go when you die. Think of the astral plane like a highway that connects other realms/planes. I can't say I've mapped the planes enough to talk about them cogently, but I know the astral plane is not where you go when you die.
