First of all, thank you! All of your entries resonate, and have been enormously helpful. But this one thing keeps nagging at me: If HS already understands the things I'm discovering here inside this life, what is the point of coming here? Why would I incarnate, just to re-learn what my HS already knows? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me on this. Its been a real stumbling block. |

Do most people know what a programmer does? Sure. Is it different to know what a programmer does versus having the personal experience of sitting down and programming a massive multi-user site like kayak from scratch and then reaping the benefits? Very, very different. Knowing something, versus experiencing it firsthand, two very different things. |

Your higher self (which is ofcourse You) is in the process of learning through experience. Thats why you choose this life...whatever the experience be...whether being born in nation where babies die due to starvation or in a family where you have a bank account by the time you are born. You chose it...its your choice alone.

Both Good points. Thanks! This is gonna seem stubborn but I'm hung up on this.... I'm pretty sure we've all probably lived out many lives. I just don't understand why my real self, HS, who "get's the big picture" would decide to go back to earth school over and over. It sorta seems like deciding to go back to grade one again, even though the real me has a degree. |

I'd sure like to know why my HS - if it exists (not convinced of that yet, though I'm open to the possibility) - would choose to remain so hidden, so elusive. Wouldn't it be better if I could just call him up? Me: Hello, Higher Self? HS: Speakin. Me: Uh... hi. I have a question. HS: Make it snappy. Family Guy is on. Me: Uh, well, OK. What's the reason for my existence here? HS: Since when did you need a reason? Me: I'd like to have some sort of idea what this is all leading to. HS: Just a sec... HAHAHAHA...! Peter just got coldcocked by a chicken! Me: What? HS: Oh. Family Guy. Nevermind. What was the question again? Me: What's the reason for my existence? HS: Look, it's perfectly simple. Just live the best life you can in the short time you've got. Me: Short time? HS: *pause* Yes. Short time. Me: How much time? HS: I can't tell you. Me: You can't tell me because you don't know or you can't tell me because you don't know? HS: Sorry, gotta go. Someone's on the other line... *click* Me: *sigh* |

It works for me. I was surprised at first, telling myself what is going on. He looked just like me, just wearing different clothes. It's a cool experience, try it out next time you go lucid. You just need to remember | |

I've had lucid dreams since i was little, but for the first time 2 nights ago, I finally remembered to call out my HS. I said please, & it appeared at once, but then the dream became swirly and I wasn't able to see or hear HS clearly enough. They kept shifting into someone else, & I had to keep asking "what was that?" |

To run with the degree/grades analogy, maybe think of each incarnation as another year. So you've got 12-13 years of school, then a undergrad degree maybe 4 years, then a grad degree anywhere from a couple of years to heaps. And then multiply that by the level of breathtaking learning that your HS might want to do, and hundreds upon hundreds of incarnations might make sense. After all, if you wanted to learn pure maths, you wouldn't keep going back to 1st grade, you'd keep working your way up. Whoever said that you're learning the same things in each incarnation? You learn what your HS wants to learn. Wolverine |

Ok. Apologies for the supa post here...... I'm under the impression that when you return to the ether, it's like "oh yeah, of course! it all makes sense again!" The veil is lifted, knowledge of source & the universe returns. When you get to go back "home" (& I feel very strongly that this earth gig is not home) everything is understood and you are returned to your real family, knowledge & memory restored. What is the point of coming here? To make a bunch of mistakes, and learn from them, even though real me knows better already? I also have a difficult time understanding the decision to come to earth to help others. Don't they already understand everything back at home with source and all those spirits who are missin' them right now? I worked as a child & family counselor, trying to help people figure out that smacking your kids around is not ok. we come back here to this plane to slash and destroy when we obviously know we are all part of source, and that love is the way, when we are in the ether? I am aware how closed minded this may sound, but I want to understand this HS thing. |

showmouse, Life is all a game played by Consciousness - Brahman. Call it whatever you may like - god or universe. Yes I am refering to Hindusim and Buddhism and Taoism concepts. There is no Higher self out there. All the guides, spirits, higher selves etc exists because of the Supreme Power. In other it exists because god imagines them to exist or "YOU" choose them to exist. You can either be a role player in this game or you can be the one who creates the game a.k.a enlightement - which in a way means you dont have to play the game. If you choose to play the game, then you will be reborn. All the great mystics and teachers say its hard to describe Brahman with words. The mind cannot understand something that has no form. It needs form to understand something.....and hence the confusion about Subjective reality in this forum. So if you want to know why your higher self wants to be born, go within and ask yourself. You can ask us 10 people and you will get 10 different answers. What will you do then ? Only you know the real answer. Ask your - self. |

thanks for responding absvan. Maybe I'm not articulating myself very well. i'm trying to figure out why anyone in general, including myself would incarnate. from what i've read here, there is a general understanding that your HS is in the ether always, and we are essentially avatars, playing out roles in order to learn something that HS wants to work on. This is where I'm stuck. What is left to learn?! Am I wrong by assuming that when you return home to the ether, and source, that you immediately understand the error of your silly human ways? Why does anyone need to come to earth to learn? Isn't everything obvious again when the veil is removed, like,"oh! of course!" when you die and return to the ether? It's sounds bananas, but I feel like I've been here a hundred times. Maybe my HS is an evil mutha who needs a karmic ♥♥♥♥♥ slap? Or maybe I have no HS? I'm inclined to think I do because all the folks on here seem pretty sincere when they talk about theirs. And because I remember the part about the veil. That's how I got to this site in the first place. I was sick of feeling like a bit of a weirdo and stumbled upon this site just as I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who "remembers" some things. Sorry for the long post. |

You can't learn what it's like to live in a physical body while you're in the ether. You can't interact with people on this level or have certain interactions except while incarnated. Your higher self is not omniscient, he or she just has a higher perspective, like how a bird can see the whole lake and a fish just the part he's swimming in. But if you want to experience what it's like to be a fish you can't just dive into the water as a bird. You gotta be a fish.

I saw that movie but honestly I don't remember anything about it. I think the female lead in that movie bugged me so much I totally tuned it out. But Brad was hot. |
