Default I want to know NOW!

Intellectually, I want to enjoy the journey of switching careers from retail to IT. Emotionally, I want it all. I want to switch careers now, I want my certifications now, and I want to know what degrees to pursue now.

How do I develop more patience with myself? How can I truly enjoy the journey and take it one day at a time?

Creative observation is the answer.

You know you have the goal now, but you also know you build in a little time delay to sense the enjoyment of attainment.

Like waiting in line to ride the rollercoaster, you do want to wait a little, for it increases the thrill of the ride, but not too long otherwise it gets frustrating.

If you sat on the rollercoaster 24/7 you'd get bored.

So know the goal is yours, but play a little (purposeful) game of delay and denial just enough to keep it exciting.

If you really are a geek... you should view logic and rationality with high regard... they should be some of your main values...

A logic and rational person would not expect to flip and switch and be immediately transported a couple years down in the future...

So, my advice to you would be to prioritize your values and be governed accordingly...

The very best of luck to you...

PS. - When I get impatient... I repeat the mantra, "Patience Jackass... patience..." and, for some reason it makes me smile and it helps...

Why do you need patience. It seems that only fear is holding you back. Go for it.

geekchic9... My advice is to shift your focus from wants to needs....
Identify why you want this so badly.... Do you think it will make your life better? Make you happy? fill a need?.... Needs bring you back to the now
enjoy the now... know that each class, each assignment, each certification fills a need to get you where you want to go... I think you just might find some great times, awsome moments in the now

I really like this analogy. It reminds me of a time when I waited 3 hours to ride a new roller coaster with some friends of mine. The ride was worth the wait, and the wait for the roller coaster was just as much fun since I was with friends. I appreciate the analogy, Max. Thank you so much.
