I'm new here and really enjoy this site. There's numerous threads that are of great interest to me. I've been into self-help and personal development for some time now. I achieved positive results after reading self-help books and listening to some audio programs; however, those results pale in comparison to what NLP has done for me. "Emotional Mastery" is the title of this forum followed by the following: "Emotional intelligence, addiction and recovery, grieving, loss, fear, anger, guilt, resentment, frustration, anxiety, depression, happiness, joy, love, kindness, forgiveness, self-acceptance, confidence, escaping the pit of despair, EFT" Through NLP, I gained emotional intelligence. I overcame my addictions to drugs, quit smoking. I finally got over negative energies that lingered in my life for so long: bitterness, anger, resentment, guilt, regrets. I learned to freely and fully forgive others sincerely. I overcame envy/jealousy and now rejoice in other people's prosperity. I experienced happiness & love, sweet feelings I've never felt for the longest time. I saw myself in an entire new light and never felt more at peace. There's more that don't come to mind at the moment. NLP cleansed me of negative energy and put positive energy in it's place. I have cried tears of joy for the first time in my life. NLP is literally the best thing that has happened to me. And this is the reason it comes as a surprise that there is lack of discussion on NLP (Although browsing numerous threads, I did come across a few threads of advice that were clearly NLP based.) I conducted a search and less than ten threads generated. It trips me out how I realized the power of NLP. You see, it was years ago when I first came across NLP in Tony Robbin's "Awaken the Giant Within" (it's referred to as NAC in that book; wish I hadn't brushed off PD back then). "Visualizing Mickey Mouse ears and Pinocchio noses on people who upset you? Running things backward/forward? Movie music? What the hell is this hokey-pokey far out crap?" I thought. It wasn't until more than a decade later when I experienced the power of NLP firsthand. I went through a traumatizing event that really messed with my head. For over a year and a half, I was suffering emotionally. I constantly relived the event, experiencing the fear, anxiety, and pain over and over again. "Almost two years and it's still ****ing with me to this magnitude?!" I thought, "Isn't time supposed to heal? I'm losing my ****ing mind." I tried all I can to overcome this, but nothing worked. Now, I don't recall exactly how elements of the "Scramble Pattern" in "Awaken the Giant Within" came to mind. It seems to have lingered in the back of my mind after all these years I guess; it just happened to spontaneously come to mind, out of the blue. And when it came to me, I started implementing those elements into the traumatizing memories of the event. AMAZINGLY, I overcame the event within one day. I was completely free. Rather than feel the fear, anxiety, and pain that's been torturing me, I would laugh about the event. Yes, I would literally laugh about the event. In fact, I'm thinking about the event right now and I'm laughing. Now here's the part that really trips me out: I consider that event to be a blessing in disguise! It baffles me how something good could actually come out of something so bad. If it weren't for that event happening, I would have never experienced how powerful and effective NLP was. Hence, I would have never became an NLP junkie and in turn I would have never gained the NLP tools necessary to gain emotional mastery. If you want to change any of the following in your life: "Emotional intelligence, addiction and recovery, grieving, loss, fear, anger, guilt, resentment, frustration, anxiety, depression, happiness, joy, love, kindness, forgiveness, self-acceptance, confidence, escaping the pit of despair, EFT" ...then I know that you will benefit from NLP. If you have any questions on specific patterns I used for whatever it is you have in mind, feel free to ask. Thank you for reading. |

Thanks for the info. What books or other resources on NLP, would you recommend for someone looking to master this?

I wholeheartedly recommend Mind Lines, especially if you suck at visualizing. Amazing book, and it really does help change beliefs if you apply the tactics. Erock

Very good thread Peleke4... I am an avid student of Robbins' work... and that is where I got most of my info on NLP... however my guess is that there is so little discussion on NLP on this board is simply due to the fact that so few members know anything about it... So, it would be nice if you could spearhead the work on that subject in this forum since you seem to know quite a bit about it... I, for one, would certainly appreciate it... . |

I want to point out that I'm not an expert in NLP. I have never attended an NLP practitioner program/seminar. I learned NLP by reading numerous books/ebooks, listening to audio programs, and watching NLP DVD programs. If you're looking into NLP, you'll find there are numerous resources and it may seem overwhelming. I've sifted through a lot of material. Here's what I recommend: If you want to start off, I hands down recommend NLP: The New Technology of Achievement. Also, Tony Robbins explains NLP well in Unlimited Power. Richard Bandler's Frogs Into Princes is considered an NLP classic; if you look hard enough, you should find it online for free. Mindlines is about reframing limiting beliefs and I consider this a must; NLP visualization techniques in conjunction with Mindline reframing is a POWERFUL combination. If you want to cleanse yourself of negative energy like anger, bitterness, regret, etc., the number one program I recommend is Tad James's "The Secret to Creating Your Future" audio cassette program. This is no longer available but does pop up on Ebay every now and then. I think the title is a bit misleading because a great portion of the program deals with clearing negative energy/emotions from the past. Only a small part of the program is actually geared towards the future. This program is based on NLP Timeline therapy. I didn't gain much from the book versions but hey, maybe others will. If you want to immerse yourself further into NLP, you'll probably be tempted to purchase Richard Bandler audio and DVD programs. After all, he is the co-founder. Maybe you'll gain something from it, but I personally didn't gain much out of the programs at all (Design Human Engineering, The Bandler Effect, Neuro-Hypnotic Repatterning, etc.). These programs seem to be geared toward Psychologists and NLP Practioners who do this stuff for a living. The only Richard Bandler video program I recommend is Bandler's "Down Under, Magic in Action." This is an old-school program and I don't think it's available; but like the earlier program I mentioned, it does appear on Ebay once in a blue moon. Don't confuse this with Bandler's book "Magic In Action," which is totally different in content. In "Down Under, Magic in Action" you'll see Bandler in his younger days explaining the core NLP basics, concepts. He goes through ideas and patterns explained in his early classic books. I highly recommend this video for anyone new to NLP. Cheers! |

Check the wikipedia page on NLP (or The Skeptic's Dictionary). These links indicate that there are doubts over NLP. However, I am sure that some parts have value. If you watch people's eyes you can definitely observe operations that involve remembering meaning that people have to divert their gaze. Also, thinking from another's point of view (empathetic thinking) is always a good idea. Check the mp3 files linked here for some auditory channel information on body language and lying from two authors interested in body language and NLP.

Here's some interesting background on NLP, written by a disbeliever: Donald Clark Plan B: NLP – training’s shameful, fraudulent cult
