Default anxiety

how can loa help me with my anxiety issues? I am weaning myself off of Paxil which I went on for anxiety and I will be med free by this time next year. I wake up every morning with anxiety and struggle through the first 2 hours of the day until it goes away (thank God for Xanax) I want to wake up and feel "normal" I want to be able to drive without anxiety getting in the way I want to be able to get through the whole day without anxiety. Any ideas?

Cally, I feel your pain. I had trouble with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) a couple of years ago. I managed to beat anxiety by fighting my perfectionist tendencies, putting less stock in other people's opinions, exercising, and leading what Steve would call a congruent life.

Read about my experiences here: How I Overcame Anxiety (and How You can Too).

Anxiety can be hard to deal with, and I truly wish you the best.

cally,if you could tell us what it is that your anxiety is all about (what bothers you) we might be able to suggest an appropriate solution...

John give some excellent advices on his blog...but, you could also try physical exercises like brisk walks and stuff like that... it favors the secretion of endorphin which is a very strong anti-depressant and can do wonders for your mental state...

Whatever you do... keep us posted... and the very best of luck to you...

It is a general anxiety. I never know when it is going to hit or how bad it is going to be. I do have issues with driving to far from home and it has really restricted what I am comfortably able to do.

cally, I really feel for you. I have struggled with anxiety too. It's sometimes crippling, it seems. I like to take deep breaths in and out and imagine all of the anxiety leaving my body as I exhale. Perhaps meditation of some sort would be helpful as well. I have also noticed that when I drink sodas or other things with lots of sugar or caffeine, I have increased anxiety. I am not sure that this will help you, but maybe eating really healthily, cutting out things like sodas and coffee and beginning a meditation practice would help. I am not saying it's not something chemical, but if you haven't tried any of these things already, they are worth a shot. Visualization could also be of some help. And perhaps EFT which many people have recommended to me (I haven't really tried it yet, but lots of people swear by it). I wish you the best. May you be at peace in your mind and body!

You are so right, Shamou.

As I mention in my blog, I used my elliptical machine and Bowflex to help fight anxiety, but a regular routine of walking does wonders too. Great tip.
