Default Do we smile because we feel good or feel good because we smile?

What do you think?

To me, an authentic smile is an expression of what's inside you.

It's a way of communicating to those around you what your state of being is.

And you know the answer....try both...see what is true. You experience this so you simply have to witness it.

In my experience, usually both.

Neither if you want to think outside the box. If I sat on your knee and pulled your lips up into a smile with my fingers, you'd be smiling despite your self. Or would you? *looks cute*

It works either way. Even blind people smile...

So it's a natural reaction to being happy, however, since your brain then associates smiles with being happy, you can make yourself more happy by smiling randomly.

I think we smile because we feel good. But that's not to say that putting on a smile can't make us feel good. Smiles breed more smiles.

I've done both. After taking medication I was feeling very good, as a result I had a smile on my face and I just could not stop smiling. But I also think that if you force yourself to smile then it's harder for you not to feel good. Works both ways. But I imagine the motivation for asking this is because you want to feel good and you think you may do so through smiling. If that is true I'd like to say that it might work but I'm reminded of an old proverb which states, "there is no way to happiness, happiness is the way."

In this case the emotional reaction depends largely on the relationship with the person who's doing the pulling up of lips.

In general people however get happier when they are forced to smile by outside factor. At least that's the result of scientific trials.

At the same time people who do something that makes them happy also start to smile.

I agree.
also, it is known that, some people will fake a smile just to hide the discomfort within them.
