Default Why do we have pet peeves?

-Are you one of those people who hates it when people put their nails on the chalkboard? I'm guessing you're imagining it , right now, because when I tell you about it, most people would immedieatly picture it in their mind, sounds and all....

-I ask: "Why do we get upset over these types of things , and what can we do about it?"

-Will we ever get over having "little things" that annoy us?

For me it's the sound of scraping ice. Getting food out of the freezer is not fun at all for me!

It's a very good question you ask as most pet-peeves, like many phobias are completely irrational. It might have something to do with subconscious association with other experiences. For example, for me scraping ice might be linked to me having teeth that are sensitive to cold food.

What do you think?

I think we are all on the Autistic Spectrum...which means we are functional, unlike many autistic people...but we all have our own things that we like to be a certain way.

The difference is that most of us learn how to adapt when other people violate what we consider to be the way we like things to be, on a daily basis, and we learn and accept that we have to share the world with so many people and not all of them will do things the way we like them...autistic people cannot abide their routine or anything out of the ordinary that they are used to to change and will get very upset and verbal about it...whereas we'll get pissed off, but we'll get over it and call it "tolerance".
