| I would like to find out from all forum members what you think fear actually is, and what are some of the ways you overcome your fear... Care to share? -------------- Kayceezharold The World Thru Kayceez Learn As You Earn |

| Fear is the sense that you may not have the resources to overcome or cope with some upcoming event… and that somehow you stand to lose something that is dear to you… Knowing what a problem is gives us half the solution… to overcome fear you must develop self-confidence… live in the here and now… and learn to face your dragons (fears)… And if you are really serious about overcoming fear… you do the firewalk with Tony Robbins or one of his associates… . |

| Another recommendation is to read Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers: I got it from the library and I'm thinking about buying it or checking it out again. Very helpful in all parts of overcomming even socially encouraged fears (changing self, job, spouse, habits) - the real difficult ones. |

| My theory about fear: When your conciousness has focused on an IR that is missing its sub IRs. i.e. fear of unknown. Nature paralyzes you to keep you from messing with the thing that could possibly kill you because you don't know how it works, because you have not experienced it before, and so that your parents can come and save you if there is possible danger or show you that its okay. Filling in the sub IRs means that your brain can now predict what the "thing" your conciousness is focused on does. And if you can predict it, then your brain knows what action that it needs to take in case there is danger. Also, when you come across something that is unknown and you have a "bad experience" with it then you can learn to fear it. But also, with repeated exposure to that unknown, and nothing bad happens, your frontal cortex learns to inhibit that fear. And you can have repeated exposure by just imagining. Solution to all fears: visualize, brainstorm, write a story, experience it, get familiar, implant false memories, journal it, meditate on in, yada yada, its all the same... just fill them in with your favorite method. | Fear is an emotion Emotions are generated as a response to what we percieve. Sometimes there are actual threats to our physical being and that produces fear from a real threat. Most of the time emotions of fear are produced as a result of what we imagine in our mind. Most people attempt to overcome fears by developing skills and gaining confidence. This doesn't eliminate fear, but is a common compensating strategy. To eliminate fear you have to master focusing your attention and then empty your mind of beliefs. Not just have an empty mind moment, but really dissolve all your beliefs. Then you perceive life as it is. When your eyes are opened there is nothing to fear. |

| Fear is caused by a sense of loss, but once you realize that you are not your body, and that you can't actually lose anything all fear subsides. If only I could practice what I preach... Erock

| Thanks, everyone who posted their thots on what fear is... appreciated from the bottom of my Singaporean heart! I recall my favorite role model saying something like fear only exists in one's mind... It's like, why doesn't a baby fear falling down while learning to walk? Cos the baby has not been told yet the pain and dangers, not been exposed yet nor experienced the pain yet... each time the child falls, we encourage her to get up and walk. So i was wondering if the child were to experience repeatedly falling and with each fall, there is severe pain involved, will the child then stop trying to walk? will the child then build confidence? This never happens... the fear of falling whilst learning to walk never exists! Can this model then be adopted for all other fears? Perhaps... but alot of times, because of our individual exposure to so many experiences, we think of the worst fears that can happen and even give up before trying... We allow ourselves to sometimes become paralysed by fear... but if we were to, like what some of you say, come to the realisation and consistently be aware that fear is only in the mind, we will always be able to strive forward to do our best in all! ------------- Kayceezharold The World Thru Kayceez Eyes Earn As You Learn |

(This is why when you think something, there's always a discussion in your mind.) Be aware of this, then you can start to teach it the true state of existence....like you, it can be eternal, because "matter" at it's core is really only empty space. Then instead of at death, it dying, you take it with you. |

| fear is the doorway to power. I don't mean that in the sense of making other people afraid of you. I've found in my own life that when i confidently move into something I fear that the feeling of fear dissolves and I am graced with a feeling of joy and love. To me, fear points the way into the things I deny and am afraid of dealing with. Fear can be a great resource to inspire you to overcome or even to accept the things you fear and to go through with them anyway. The trick is to not dwell on the fear itself, but rather understand why you are afraid. Deal with the root and the tree will fall.

| I don't care what fear is, only how to deal with it. ;-) 1. I accept that there is fear. 2. I actively stop attributing that fear to something external 3. I locate the fear inside my body as a physical sensation 4. I accept that physical sensation and start moving it around, transforming it, or simply continue accepting it till it fades away. |
