Default Motive Behind VA Shooter

What was the real motive behind his shooting spree?
Jealousy? Mental illness? Payback for bullying?

What prompts a person to do such a heinous act?

We can't even begin to assume what is in the mind of a person who has reached a point where mass murder is considered an option. Nor can we come up with any plausible thought pattern that would somehow make sense of such a tragedy.

However.... if we look to our own lives... search out the times when we were at our worst... perhaps we might have a fraction of an idea of the beginning mindset that if continued leads down a path of such destruction.

I don't know if you guys have discriminated against while you were in High School or college but I have. And I am pleased to say that I took it better than that kid.

The middle school I went to was largely diverse...because it was pretty much in a black neighborhood. And yes there was racism every single day to the point where I pretty much didn't bother to care anymore. I just figured they were joking or just making fun of people....like Black people usually do. Didn't matter, I got along with a lot of my classmates but I never really felt safe at that school....I always thought one day I would get into a huge fight with someone. But it never happened...

Then I moved to a suburb and went to a pretty-much all-white school....it was the worst experience ever. They're not upfront about their feelings when I talk to them....I always feel like they look at me in a way that made me feel very disrespected most of the time. I didn't get along with anyone, I didn't know if I was bullied...but mentally it had an effect because I didn't have much friends and sometimes I can feel the students around me laughing at me or looking at me wierd. Whatever...it made me feel terrible...I never ever wanted to go to school. I was smart enough not to cause any trouble and pretty much went my own way.

A lot of schools in Asia have bullying problems. And they are huge problems where students would gang up on students after school and just beat them. When I was in China....the school I went to have the same problems. The bad kids would always bully the good students...and the teachers would hit you whenever you did something wrong.....so I can't say I knew exactly how the killer felt...he probably had it way worse that I have but I know that discrimination and bullying can make you want to retaliate. It's just that you have to do it in the right way, you have to stand on your own ground against the people who bully you, and not shoot every innocent person in sight.

I quite agree. I too was bullied and tormented through grade school and high school. Nothing I tried made it stop. Teachers couldn't/wouldn't do a darn thing. Had my parents raised me any differently, not instilled in me the morals and values that they did.... I might have become a shooter.

I think it could be the anti depressant that triggered the extraordinary motive of violence. The media isnt going to link the violence to antidepressant because everybody is afraid of the big pharma boys .

We need someone like Mercola to educate the public about the hidden risk of Antidepressant.
http://www.mercola.com/2007/apr/24/c...h-massacre.htm

Anti depressant linked violence and suicideSSRI Stories

Quote:
The Physicians' Desk Reference lists the following adverse reactions to antidepressants among a host of other physical and neuropsychiatric effects: manic reaction (mania), emotional lability (or instability), abnormal thinking, alcohol abuse, hallucinations, hostility, lack of emotion, paranoid reaction, amnesia, confusion, agitation, delirum, delusions, hysteria, psychosis, sleep disorders, abnormal dreams, and discontinuation (withdrawal) syndrome. Adverse reactions are especially likely when starting or discontinuing the drug, increasing or lowering the dose or when switching from one SSRI to another SSRI. Adverse reactions are often diagnosed as bipolar disorder when the symptoms could be entirely iatrogenic (treatment induced). Withdrawal, especially abrupt withdrawal, from any of these medications can also cause severe neuropsychiatric and physical symptoms. It is important to withdraw extremely slowly from these drugs, usually over a period of a year or more, under the supervision of a qualified and experienced specialist.
The above is IMO .

Agreed. Antidepressants show up in virtually every situation like this. When it first happened my one prediction was that the kid was either on antidepressants or strong acne meds (accutane). With the right drugs, one may start doing things that in the past would have simply been fleeting thoughts never to be acted upon, for better and worse.
